The Devil's Nest, Wednesday Evening

"You know, somehow I didn't expect it to be this bad," Octavia said to Tiny, surveying the spray paint on both the piano and the axe range. "You know how Lucifer exaggerates things sometimes."

Tiny declined to comment.

And Octavia settled down behind the distinctly not-painted bar, only faintly considering the possibility of putting something pink up on the specials board.

In Marc's case it had been a long week and yes he was aware it was only Wednesday. Drinks were called for and currently there was only one bar on the island where he liked getting them.

Granted he didn't expect the bar to be quite so pink but sure, why not?

He didn't particularly care who behind the bar helped out when he said, "Let's go for a whiskey. I don't care what color it is so long as it's strong."

Octavia had been spending a fair portion of her night so far texting Lucifer about his reignited little feud with Eric, but she looked up now, putting her phone aside.

"They didn't get paint in any of the bottles," she rasped as she went to grab one of the whiskey ones. "Don't worry."

That didn't sound particularly sincere, but then, it didn't sound particularly like much of anything. A dry sort of flat.

"I won't worry about the surcharge for extra lead then," Marc said. "But now where am I going to get my daily dose of minerals?"

"Probably not at a club," Octavia drawled, as she poured him the drink. And then slid it over to him.

"True enough." Marc saluted her with the glass to say thanks before taking a swallow. "I appreciate the customer service."

That wasn't sarcasm. He actually meant it.

Octavia... probably wouldn't have cared either way, but since it wasn't sarcasm, she at least offered him a curt little nod in acknowledgement.

And then, after a beat, asked, "You new?"

Which was her best attempt at small talk.

Hey, not like Marc was the small talk king. "New enough. You?"

Case in point.

"Not even a little."

Actually, everything was relative, but. You know.

"Long time on the island, vampire, or both?" Marc asked, since in this bar those weren't uncommon options.

[okteiviakom]

"The vampire's my boss," Octavia said, with a mild glance in the general direction of the back room - though Eric didn't seem to be in tonight. "I've just been here for... enough time."

"That makes it sound like too much time," Marc said. Normally it was none of his business but she was hitting a level of stoic that seemed less a lifestyle choice and more like something was wrong.

Figuring this aimed down the middle of letting her take it as a legit question or a joke he added, "So somebody need killing? Don't tell me it's who did the new color scheme."

Octavia snorted, though the sound was faint and dry. "Both people involved in that are immortal."

That was the assumption she was going with, anyway, since so far no one was suspecting Tiny.

"I'm just waiting for all of that to die down again."

"Gotta admit paint jobs are the least weird thing around here," Marc said. "I'd offer to help paint it back but I already told you the one thing I'm good at. I'm Marc by the way."

Octavia was going to refrain from saying anything about just how little help she needed in killing people.

"I'm Octavia," she said instead, simply.

Marc knew that one. How did he know that one? Oh right, Steven had heard the name before. "Same Octavia the guy at the diner mentioned? Duke?"

Hey, there was no need to specify that Duke hadn't mentioned her to him personally.

"Mm-hm, Duke Crocker," Octavia said with a tiny nod. "That's one of my partners, yeah."

Her talking-to-strangers delivery was so flat that no one could be blamed for thinking she meant that like 'business partners', rather than one of the loves of her life.

Marc would've assumed that if Duke hadn't already covered that with Steven. "He mentioned that too. Guess I get to complete the hat trick by finally meeting you."

Probably didn't technically count since Steven had been the one to meet Lucifer as well as Duke but details.

"Congrats on making that work by the way. I couldn't handle a relationship with one person so I'm twice as impressed."
