Luke's, Thursday

Lucifer had been in a bit of a mood last night when Duke had gotten home from spending time on his sailboat (which he was getting steadily closer to properly naming), so when Duke set the specials for the day, it was with his fancy-ass partner in mind.

"You know," Timmy said, peering over his shoulder, "lobster used to be considered a total trash-fish. Just absolute commoner food. It's only propaganda that's turned it into a status symbol."

Duke rolled his eyes to the ceiling without turning around. "Are you seriously trying to explain lobster facts to a guy from Maine?"

Timmy found something else to do for the rest of the day.

"Lobster thermidor?" Lucifer said, looking up at the specials board. "My, someone is going Maine chique today."

He had totally shown up here just because he felt like it, and not at all because he was still emotionally unstable after the thing with Octavia last night and needed the steady reassurance that was Duke.

Totally.

Oh for sure.

"What can I say?" Duke asked, flicking Lucifer a smile. "I was feeling inspired."

"As I can tell," Lucifer said, smiling back at him. "I don't suppose we can share a meal?"

"Absolutely," Duke agreed. "Grab a table and I'll be right over."

"I do always like having my own private chef," Lucifer told Duke's minions cheerfully, and stalked towards a table.

Duke's staff was probably wishing he'd go back to forgetting to come in instead of always having his partners around to flirt with.

Duke didn't care though. He whistled softly to himself as he carefully plated two meals and then sauntered over to where Lucifer sat.

"Here we go! Bon appetit, mon coeur."

"I get lobster and French," Lucifer said, beaming. "I could get used to this."

"Only the best for my favorite tie-dye hater," Duke said, sliding into the seat next to him.

If Lucifer wanted to talk about what had him in a mood, Duke would be all ears, but he wasn't going to press for it either.

Bold of Duke to assume that even Lucifer fully understood why he was upset.

"Once again very kind with the endearments," Lucifer sighed, turning to smile at him. "And how has your day been so far?"

"Good," Duke said. "I might have figured out a name for the little boat."

"Oooh?" Lucifer said, leaning in. "Do tell."

Duke spread his hands, framing the name as he said "The OceaNyx."

Lucifer barked out one hell of a laugh.

". . . Not quite the reaction I was expecting, but I'll take it."

[my_own_advocate]

"No, no, it's good," Lucifer chuckled. "I just appreciate the 90s sci-fi animation punniness of it."

Duke chuckled. "Well. Glad you approve. I figured Nyx covered both you and Tavi, stars and moon and all."

And he was still happier with the idea of being the ocean than the sun.

Lucifer huffed in amusement. "Of course, the including-the-whole-family of it all makes me think of the baby boat as a sort of nautical SUV."

"You are just determined to make my poor sailboat feel like it belongs to a soccer mom, aren't you," Duke said, shaking his head. "You're getting downright domestic, babe."

"You say that now, but I give it a few months before you're picking up groceries in that thing," Lucifer sighed. "I'm not judging, for once. I quite enjoy the baby boat."

It would always be the baby boat to him.

... He took that moment to dig into his meal.

And Duke settled in to his own, though most of his attention was on watching Lucifer eat his.

He liked seeing his loved ones enjoy his food.

Well, he made food worth enjoying. Lucifer took his time, not wasting too much air on talking.

Lingering in this moment, with the frankly delicious lobster? It helped take his mind off of last night just a bit.

"You've outdone yourself," he hummed.

"Thank you," Duke said, giving Lucifer a soft smile. "I felt like making something I knew you'd like, today."

Lucifer let out a soft huff. "I suppose I won't argue too much with being catered to," he said. "Especially when this is the result."

"Since when do you not want to be catered to?" Duke asked, smiling even as his brows frowned. "What's going on with you lately?"

"Nothing," Lucifer sighed, considering his last remaining piece of lobster. "Octavia texted me last night and it all turned into a bit of a mess. My fault. But it'll pass, as always."

Duke nodded, grimacing in sympathy. He figured that explained Lucifer's clinging last night. "You suppose someday we'll get any better at not accidentally setting her off?"

"I think that's up to her, not us," Lucifer admitted. "The right thing to say is often so... specific, with her."
