The Beach - Friday Afternoon

Liz had agreed to meet Steven at the beach so that she should could show him how photography worked and take some photos with him, so she had her polaroid camera with her as well as her more modern camera that she liked to use for her more professional photos. Even though most of the photos she took were random moments, she did like nature photography and it was a nice day so she thought it would at least be a nice way to distract herself for a couple of hours at least.

She always enjoyed talking about photography and she was looking forward to being able to share her favourite and well really only hobby so while she waited for Steven, she took the opportunity to take some shots of the beach.

Steven hadn't been to the Fandom beach before but he had some idea of what it was like thanks to Marc's memory of it. As such he dressed in the lighter linens and boots that were appropriate for walking around in sand. Did this involve swiping some things from Marc's side of the closet? Yes, yes it did.

"Liz, hello! Hope I didn't keep you waiting."

Liz grinned when she saw Steven and very quickly turned her Polaroid towards him to see if he would mind if she take his picture.

“Steven,” she smiled when saw him, “I’m glad you could make it. I haven’t been waiting long,” she assured him and then she indicated her camera, “do you mind if I take a photo of you?” she asked somewhat shyly as she did.

"Oh! Um, yes," Steven said. "I mean no. I mean I don't mind. Should I pose?"

Liz grinned shyly at that and got her camera ready, “I mean if you would like to,” she told him.

"Let me think." Steven took a moment then positioned himself so he was looking out towards the water with one hand shading his eyes from the sunlight. "There. How's that? Very explorer, yeah?"

“Perfect," Liz grinned as she took a few different snaps with her Polaroid and handed one of the
copies to him so he'd be able to see what it looked like, "very explorer like," she told him.

Steven took a look at it. "Ooh nice. I'm not even blinking in this one. That's a real photographer's touch, there."

“Well I don’t know about that,” Liz said with a grin as a faint blush appeared on her cheeks, “I think that one was all you, I just helped capture the moment,”

"I don't know, I'm just stood there," Steven said. Because he couldn't fathom himself coming out well in pictures without some help. He wasn't Marc after all.

He held the Polaroid uncertainly. "Am I meant to keep this or...?"

“You can keep it if you like,” Liz told him with a smile, “i like to take multiple copies of my pictures, I’ve filled up a lot of SD cards just taking multiple photos of the same shot, it took nearly a week to go through all my photos from Africa and half of those shots where just Prompto and me taking photos of each other at the same time,” she smiled a little sadly at the memory of that trip.

Steven put the picture carefully into his pocket so it wouldn't be harmed. "You must be glad for all those pictures now, though, yeah? Bet he is too. You can still see each other even while you're apart."

Liz smiled, nodding as she put her own copy away, “it’s nice being able to have those memories, I just hope I’ll have the opportunity to see him again so we can make more,” she said softly.

"Ay, none of that. We're here to distract you, right?" Of course Steven didn't actually mean she couldn't talk about missing Prompto if she wanted, he just wanted to be sure he wasn't failing in his duties as a friend if the goal of the outing was to keep her mind off of her worries.

Liz did smile at that, “right, I’m supposed to be showing you photography,” she said, “is there anywhere you’d like me to start first?” she asked as she held up her cameras.

"I don't know." Steven thought about it. "Where did you start? What did you learn first? Why not try there since that's probably why you came to like it so much?"

“Well when I first started I used my Polaroid, so it’s definitely a good first camera to get the feel for photography. I basically used my Polaroid to try and capture as much as I could when I was starting out,” Liz explained, “so we could start using my Polaroid first if you would like?”

"Don't think I'll manage as well as you just did with that photo of me but maybe by the end of the lesson I won't be embarrassing myself," Steven said. "Or you as my teacher. Hopefully, right?"

Liz smiled, "all it takes is a bit of practice," she said, "I mean, I only really got good at this because I spent most of my childhood taking photos," she paused, "I feel I should also say I've never actually taught anyone photography before, so this is a bit of a learning curve for me as well, so to speak,"

Steven smiled at her. "Firsts for us both then, eh? I'll do my best to be a good student."

Liz smiled back, “and I’ll do my best to be a good teacher,” she promised as she got her Polaroid ready, “I don’t suppose you’ve ever used a Polaroid before?” she asked.

"Not a Polaroid," Steven said. "I have taken some pictures with mobile cameras and the like to help out my friend Crawley when tourists want photos with him. So I have the part about point in a direction and push a button down. Not much more than that."

Liz nodded, “well I mean you’ve already got a good head start there,” she told him with a smile as she showed him her Polaroid, which was fairly basic unlike the newer models, “mine’s rather old fashioned but it does the job, it’s all about getting that right shot and taking the photo,” she explained.

Steven leaned over so he could get a better look at the camera. "So no dials everywhere or anything like that? I tried looking online to see if I could learn a little before today and there was all sorts of things about F-somethings and I pretty much panicked and closed the browser."

“There’s no dials in this one,” Liz assured him as she pointed out the button he needed to press, “do you mean f stop or maybe f number is that what you came across?” She asked as she tried to think of some of the more common terms in photography that Steven could come across.

"That one," Steven said, pointing at her when she mentioned it. "F stop. Don't know what F is or why we've got to stop it from doing anything. Figured it was better to let you explain before I got too far into the weeds."
