Blackstone Foundry and Forge; Tuesday [06/14].
Now that she'd had a chance to get a good feel for some pike poles in action, Amaya was narrowed in and focused on getting the one done for Travis, though she was honestly a little disappointed that it was actually a relatively straightforward project. But she figured that was all the more reason to take her time with it and really focus on getting it good and right....maybe until she came up with something else to tackle after this.
As long as she had something to work on, she was good, she was fine. Maybe she should drag out the sandwich board again and try to drum up some business with a summer special of sorts. What weapons felt particularly summer-y? Lighter fare, maybe, your spears and rapiers and bows. Maybe a focus on some light armor? Don't sweat the small stuff, the board could say, piece-meal plate-mail for breezy summer protection!
Hey, now, that wasn't half bad. She would write that down if she wasn't so deep into shaping metal on the pike head...and trying to keep the quenching to a minimum.
You know, because of integrity of the metal, and all.
The Forge is open!

It was a real testament to how much Irene was...curious about blacksmithing, we'll say, that she was wandering into the forge today on her fancy little shoes in spite of the humidity. (This was a rather cozier practice in the colder months, admittedly. But Irene had never been put off flirting by a little weather, regardless of heat or snow or black of night.)
But at least she was bearing a pair of already-sweating iced coffees, which doubled as a gift and a concession for herself to the heat. "'lo, Amaya. What're you working on?"

...
....and she supposed she couldn't complain if she got caffeine out of the deal, either.
"Pike pole," she finally explained, with one more hammer strike and lifting it up to inspect the damage. "Firefighter's tool I convinced Travis to get a custom made one of couple weeks ago in class. I've actually quite taken to 'em, might make 'em a bit of a Blackstone staple."
Because of course she would. A hook and a spike? Sign her up!

"I like it. It's all...spiky," Irene offered, leaning in a bit to peer at the pike head as she set down both coffees on the nearest available surface. "Bit like a massive fireplace poker, which I suppose makes sense. Or a spear, but the hooky bit seems quite nasty if it was used like a spear."
You might have a shot of surviving being run through with a spear! A pike looked much more messy.

"Apparently used to help break through surfaces," she confirmed with a nod. "And not poke through coworkers, which is why I'm not to make it to sharp."
Mostly mentioned as a reminder to herself. She inspected the current state of the pike pole a moment before deciding it was in a convenient spot to set it aside.
"So what brings you in today, Irene?" she asked, turning her attention her way.

But see how she could be merciful and just leave it there, rather than insisting Amaya confront the fact that Irene was here to see the blacksmith herself? (Plus, Irene really was genuinely getting pretty interested in blacksmithing itself! Or at least, she felt like she was picking up on a lot of it fairly well.)
"Plus, I was getting myself a coffee and thought you might like one as well," she added, reaching for her own, obviously-drunk-from cup to take a sip. "Though I also hope you stay on top of your hydration, in here."
Just a little mild, casual caring about Amaya's wellbeing and comfort. Don't mind her.

She made no move to reach for that awaiting second cup, though. Not yet, anyway, which was a pretty solid statement of will with the way at condensation on the cup seemed to be beckoning, and, reminded of hoe hot it was in the forge, Amaya swiped the back of her arm across her brow.

And making a note to bring water next time, too, if that was the answer she was going to get. (Hydration was so important! Especially if Amaya was going tempt fate with a yet like that!)

But the coffee dud, finally, make it into her posession.
"Oh " she noted, "I'm sure you could have found some poor coffee-less sop to take it off your hands easily enough."
