Wanda was spending time un-American'ing Jeff this morning, leaving just a plain ol' giant skeleton outside of the store. They were heading into the holiday drought which was kind of sad. She'd have to delve deep into non-American holidays if she got the itch to dress Jeff up. Maybe a beret and a baguette for Bastille Day?

Jon came over slowly and a little nervously.

"Hello. I'm wondering if you're Wanda."

"Yeah, that's me," she said. Wanda looked at Jon for a moment, wondering where she had seen him before. "Don't you live in the same building as me?"

He was your landlord, Wanda, not that you really needed to meet him in the world of paying your rent online.

"Yes," Jon agreed. "On the ground floor. Um. I...I reported radio yesterday."

That seemed like a good place to start.

"And there was...um. You were with a book."

Wanda lifted her eyebrows. "I do read on occasion, yes. Call it a hobby."

"No, I..." Jon sighed. "Look, where I come from, there are books that are...dangerous. Books that will change you, or...or eat you. I just...I don't know what it's like where you're from, or anything, but I...I just wanted to make sure you were fine. And careful."
