MHA, Landlord's apartment and around the building, Saturday

Jon was feeling better this week, so he was out checking the building, seeing if anything needed to be done. The sign by his door noted he was available if anybody needed him, and he was keeping an eye (ha) out.

Had the nuts in the vending machine always been that colour?

After having a handwaved conversation with Jon at the party, Connor was finally getting over to the MHA complex to see about getting that flat for himself. And for Rex of course.

"Be a good dragon... dinosaur... lizard... whatever... ok, mate?" he asked in a slightly pleading tone he said to Rex as he chirped happily as they made their way into the lobby area. "I know you don't want to be cooped up in the work office anymore than I do. So, let's make a good impression aye?"

Taking a deep breath, Connor walked in, the couple bags he had slung over his shoulder as he stood for a moment looking around.

Jon came out to greet him, bringing the keys to the flat. "Hello." He nodded to Connor and gave Rex a curious look.

"Hey, Jon. Good to see ya again" Connor said with a nod. "Bought the papers we handwavely talked about. Should have it all here for ya."

He looked at Jon then to Rex and then back to Jon somewhat nervously.

"Ya did say pets were ok, right?" he asked as Rex gave what almost sounded like an indignant chirp at being called a 'pet.'

"Oh, yes." Jon nodded as he took the paperwork. "Just so long as he doesn't bother the other residents or anything. Or bring the place down around our ears." Rex seemed a little small for that, but you never knew.

"Naaw, he'll be good," Connor said looking down at Rex. "We've managed this long so far in me office at the Museum. Pretty sure we both will be just perfect with some more room."

And as if to agree, Rex gave a couple happy trilling chirps before jumping up onto Connor's shoulder.

"Right. Well, this way." Jon led the way to the elevator. "You're on the fifth floor. Oh." He frowned as they waited. "It's apartment thirteen. You're not superstitious, I hope."

"Superstitious? Naaw mate, not really," Connor said with a shrug. "I'm more leery of those portal you all seem to use so willy nilly than any silly number."

"Right. Good." Jon nodded. "I, um. I don't know much about the portals, I'm afraid."

The lift came, and Jon headed in, waiting for Connor.

Connor followed Jon into the lift, and gave Rex a quick head-scratch.

"They obviously are different than the ones I've had experience with" Connor said. "The anomalies back home? You wouldn't dare just walk through one. You were as likely to end up in the middle of a pack of raptors as you would a flock of dodos. There was no telling where the portal would spit ya out on the other side."

"The ones here seem...well, reliable enough that people use them regularly," Jon said. "I haven't used them on my own, only with the school."

"Braver than I am mate" Connor said with a slight head shake. Give him some time and it might change though. He was jumping through portals after dinos with only the briefest hesitation back with the team after all.

Jon frowned. "I don't understand how you got here without going through a portal."

The lift doors opened, and he led the way out.

Connor followed him out of the lift and rubbed the back of his head.

"I guess it was a portal of some kind, though I didn't even realize or notice at the time. I kinda just left the team back in London and when I got off the plane here things were... different. Guess there's more than one type of portal or something" he said with a slight shrug. He had been through enough insane stuff that this was something fairly easy to accept in the grand scheme of things.

"Probably," Jon acknowledged. He unlocked the door and handed the key to Connor. "Your neighbours are Steven and Marc and Detective Watts," he noted before leading the way in.

"Ah that will make things easier on the neighbor side of things" Connor said as he took the keys and glanced down the hallway. "I work with Steven at the Museum. So that's at least one persons introductions have already been taken care of" he added as he followed Jon into the flat.

Connor looked around for a moment and gave a light whistle. Rexy chirped happily and jumped off his shoulder and flew around the main room once before landing back on his shoulder.

"This is a lot better than the back office at the Museum, that's for sure!"

"Certainly larger than anything affordable in London," Jon noted. "If there's anything you need or any problems, you can let me know. There's laundry downstairs free of charge, mailboxes are in the lobby, and so is my flat. I'm not fussed with parties or anything unless it bothers the other tenants." He gave a wry smile. "So far that's meant that whenever there is one, everybody's invited."

"Not much of the party goer myself really" Connor said. "Not the one that usually gets invited to the popular folks parties really." Please, hold your shock and surprise. "Though... guess if there is one in the building I kinda lose one of my go-to excuses for not going the rare occasions I do get invited" he added. "Guess we will see what the fates have in store" he said crossing his fingers and a slight smirk.

"I'm not really one for parties myself," Jon confessed, "but the people here are...really very nice, generally."

He gestured at the flat. "So, if you want to take it, it's yours."

"Aye, thanks mate. The place looks great!" Connor said giving another look around. "Think me and Rex will be quite comfortable here, ain't that right mate?" he said as the tiny green dragon gave a happy chirp.

"And don't worry," Connor said with a serios nod to Jon. "We'll be on our best behavior. Won't even know we are here!"

Somehow, Jon thought Marc would still be his quietest tenant.

He nodded. "I'll, um. Leave you to get settled in, then. I'll be downstairs if you need me."

"Right thanks. Will get these few things set up" Connor said with a nod towards the few bags he had. "And will bring the last few things in over the weekend. Not like there's lot of stuff to worry about thankfully!"

He held his hand out towards Jon to shake as he held the keys in the other.

"Thanks again mate, really appreciate it."

"Oh, um." Jon gave him an awkward wave instead of shaking his hand; hopefully the burn there would be explanation enough. "You're welcome. I'll...I'll see you later, then."
