The Photo Hut - Tuesday

Liz had been feeling more tired than usual and she had been finding it difficult to focus lately. She had been trying to take it easy and relax but that didn’t seem to be working, so she decided to come into the store early and see if she could get a head start on her end of month financial report and see if staying busy helped with the focusing.

She hadn’t gotten very far on her report though and decided to pick up her knitting instead, she had been making very good progress on her knitting over the past week though and was nearly finished with the baby sweater. She was quite pleased with how it was turning out and once she had finished and then she could start on Rain and Pancakes matching sweaters as well.

Steven had a few errands to run that day. The first was seeing Liz. He came into the shop, holding a small package in one hand. "Hello, Liz! Not too busy, are you?"

Liz smiled when she saw Steven, “hi, no I’m not to busy,” she assured him , “just finishing the last part of my sweater,” she explained as she showed him the nearly finished product, “I don’t seem to have much focus for any other tasks today,” she admitted.

Steven gave the sweater the appreciative study it deserved. "That's lovely! Well done, you! That's impressive for a first effort, isn't it? Making a sweater?"

Steven had no idea how knitting worked, but he had no problem assuming Liz had done something clever as a default.

“I think so?” Liz tilted her head as she considered, “I mean I did follow a few tutorials to see how it worked but Im quite enjoying the process,” she told him, “I wasn’t sure how I’d go at it but it seems to be holding together quite well, I’ve been finding it rather relaxing,” she admitted.

"Anything that helps keep your mind off things has to be a bonus, yeah?" Steven said. He looked her over, trying to see how well she was holding up regardless of how she said she was doing. "How are the both of you? Things all right?"

“Tired mostly,” Liz admitted softly, “my focus hasn’t been to great lately, I’ve been having trouble sleeping,” there was a pause, “but things have been okay other than that, just been trying to stay busy,” she added.

Steven gave her a look of sympathy. "Well I know what sleeping trouble can be like. Has it been bad dreams?"

“Mostly trying to get comfortable, even though I have been missing Prompto - more so than usual,” Liz admitted, “I think just beginning to do all these preparations and he’s not here …I …I worry that he wont be here for the birth,” she said softly.

"Plenty of time for him to get here though, yeah?" Steven said. Of course that assumed Fandom didn't do anything to move up Liz's due date. Hoping it might help distract Liz from her worries, Steven held out the package he'd brought with him. It held a small assortment of teas as well as a bottle of hand cream. "Here. This is for you. It's a - well I'd say gift but if it is not really from me. More the delivery person, here. But it's a little care package for an expectant mum. The teas are supposed to help settle you and her? Keep things going all right?"

Liz was going to blame the hormones for why she had started blinking back tears just then, “oh,” she looked surprised at the gift, “thank you, this …this is really nice,” she smiled, “I’ve never really drank a lot of tea before,” she admitted.

"Full credit goes to Nell," Steven said. "I believe I told you about her? Marc's friend? Works at the flower shop? She makes things with plants and the like. When I mentioned knowing someone who was expecting she put this together for you. Said to let her know if the flavor didn't appeal and she'd be happy to make adjustments. Er, for the tea. The lotion's not meant for drinking."

Steven gave a grin to show he was joking and knew Liz wasn't at risk for trying to drink lotion, no matter how strange her pregnancy cravings might be.

Liz managed a smile at that, trying to try and dry away those excess tears with her hand, “I won’t drink the lotion,” she assured him, “ I think even with the cravings the weirdest thing seems to be s’mores soda that Summer had in her class last week, I don’t think I was meant to like them as much as I did,” she admitted.

She had a closer look at the package, “but this was really nice of Nell, I’ll have to thank her next time I see her, the teas do look good,” she said with a smile.

"S'mores soda sounds like it would be good, actually," Steven said. "And yes, all credit to her. I tried one of her teas yesterday - er, not these, of course. But another one and it was quite nice. I'm sure these will be as well, even if they don't taste like chocolate. Actually they might at that, I've no idea."

Liz smiled, “then I’m definitely looking forward to trying them,” she said, “I haven’t been drinking a lot of hot drinks lately, well mostly because I’m trying to limit my caffeine intake so it will be nice to try some teas, even if they don’t taste like chocolate,” she added with a slight grin.

"I didn't think to ask if they could be had cold," Steven admitted. Well not really admitted, since that implied a confession of something he regretted. He was British. Tea was meant to be drunk hot or not at all. Don't be silly. "I think they're all herbal? Not sure how that shakes out for the caffeine but I'm sure she'd be happy to say if you asked her."

Liz nodded, “than I might do that,” she said, “I mean I’ll try them hot first, I’ve heard of herbal teas but I’ve never actually drank any of them before,” she admitted.

"Normally I don't either," Steven said. "I like a good black tea. But the one she did yesterday was nice. I think a sort of camomile maybe? If not that something like it. Not too overpowering a flavor. Oh, you should ask about her jams as well. I don't know if she sells them but the one she offered was nice."

Steven didn't mention the scones not because he thought Nell had done a poor job with it, but because he had the impression Nell had meant those for personal use. Certainly the vegan ones had to be designated for that while Nell worked out the recipe.

"Oh wow, that's pretty incredible does she make all her own teas and jams?" Liz was definitely impressed, since the most she could manage to cook was a cake, it was a good thing she had Dr. Lecter looking after the cooking side of things for her, she tilted her head slightly as she considered, "even though jam actually does sound good right now," she admitted.

"She's got a gift with plants," Steven said. He wondered if he should mention it was much like how Liz had a gift with fire. Then he realized he didn't know offhand how comfortable Nell was with people knowing about her powers, so he decided to err on the side of caution. "I got the impression if you could make it from a plant she knew how to do it. So the teas are hers, the lotion she made, she made jam. She's got other things as well but I haven't tried them. Well be honest I haven't tried the lotion either but at least it smells nice?"

"It does smell nice," Liz said as she leaned over to give it another sniff as well, “but I am looking forward to trying this and the teas too, especially if it can help with my focus … it’s been rather off lately,” she admitted.

“It must be nice to be able to work with plants like that, I’ve never really had much experience with plants before … well flowers I’ve had, Prompto gave me some of Valentine’s day,” she said, smiling at the memory of Valentine’s day and dinner on Insomnia, even if it was driving home just how much she was missing Prompto right then.

"She gave Marc a little aloe plant." Steven held his hands out to indicate the size. "It's still alive, which is impressive."

Please ignore how, other than taking care of the fish, Marc was the one who did the most to keep the flat clean and running properly. In other words, this wasn't actually that surprising.

Liz smiled as she tried to imagine Marc with a plant, “that was nice of her," there was a pause, "is this the first time he's got something of his to decorate the apartment then?" she remembered Steven mentioning about the topic the other week.

Even though Liz did very much agree with Marc's need for cleaning and keeping things running properly, she just wouldn't be able to do too much of the cleaning side of things for a while.

"Pretty much," Steven said. He appreciated Liz understanding why that mattered, and her asking about it as well. "He's put some of his things in the spare room but it hardly counts as decorating if you ask me. Storage, more like. I mean it's literally the things he used to keep in storage, plastic bins and all."

"Maybe it will just take a bit of time?" Liz suggested, "if he's got a plant now, maybe he'll be more open to decorating ..." there was a pause paused as she debated, "I could try and knit some decorations if that will help?" she offered.

"It would certainly mean more to him coming from you," Steven said. "You know him. Not the sort to go to a store and find something. Did you have anything in mind?"
