There were no cats at the Nest tonight, which was clearly a failing on someone's part. But unlike last week, Octavia was there manning the bar, back from Austria, and trying to motivate herself to... do literally anything.

"What sort of beer?" Irene wondered, sliding onto a barstool and eyeing the specials. "All beer? In general?"

Please note: she had exactly zero intention of actually ordering a beer.

Look, sometimes the best option was the simple one, and it was enough effort that Octavia had managed to put even that much onto the specials board at all.

"Not that it matters because I don't think you're getting one."

"You would be correct there," Irene replied, quirking a smile at her. "I like drinks that aren't disgusting, generally speaking."

Also, no one here needed to get into a tired debate about the temperature at which it should be served.

"But if I recall correctly, that one," she noted, cocking a finger at Tiny and winking at him, "makes an absolutely divine martini. One of those, if you please, and how are you, Octavia?"

Octavia nodded to Tiny who got started on the martini. Then she turned back to Irene.

"Fine." 'Fine' was always a little (often a lot) relative with her, but it was maybe fairly close to being accurate, right now? "We just got back from Austria."

"Ooh, really?" Color Irene both interested and mildly surprised -- that actually sounded like a fun excursion! People so rarely seemed to do that around here unless it was school-affiliated, herself excluded. "And what was in Austria?"

"The opera," Octavia offered. "On this... weird big stage on the water, in Bregenz?"

Obviously there'd been more to their trip, but that part really stood out. (As evident from how Octavia's more animated side seemed to break through the mild facade, some. Her face actually moved.)

"Apparently it's famous."

And so Irene seemed like the kind of person who might know of it.

"The Seebühne," Irene confirmed, knowing precisely what Octavia was describing, yes, and clearly delighted -- not just at the familiar territory, but at the glimpse of animation she caught from Octavia there. Apparently the opera had been a hit. "Oh, what did you see? They were doing Aida last time I made it to the Bregenz Festival. Gorgeous production."

Wanda had to go be social tomorrow, and was in need of some liquid courage to hype herself up for TV cameras and, you know, general cheer. She knew Caritas was super busy these nights so she opted for the quieter choice.

And the quieter bartender, it turned out!

"Hi," Wanda greeted as she sat down. "Octavia, right?"

"Yeah," Octavia said with a short nod. "And you're Wanda." Who didn't have hobbies, if Octavia's memory served her right from that one previous conversation, but maybe she shouldn't say that part out loud.

"That's me," she said with a nod. "Can I get something fruity? Like something with alcohol but tastes like a mango or pineapple or anything but alcohol?"

Okay, there was not any delay to speak of. She knew fruit, okay? "Yeah, I think I can work with that," she said, as she turned to get a glass and looked over some bottles.

"Thanks," Wanda said. "Maybe one day I can handle stuff that doesn't taste like fruit juice, but today is not that day."

"A lot of it tastes horrible, anyway." Octavia did not have the most refined palate in the world, no. "Though at least we serve better stuff than moonshine here."

Which had been her first foray into drinking, back on the Ground.

"Oh god, moonshine might actually kill me." Well, maybe not kill her, but she might throw up right away.

"Why have something that tastes like gasoline when you can drink stuff that tastes like sugar?" She'd never get it.

Steven had all but refused to listen when Marc said no, really, he didn't need the body that day. So fine. Whatever. Marc could go out, get a drink, and hopefully that would count enough to get Steven to quit nagging.

He ordered a scotch from Tiny, though. He wasn't in the mood for beer.

" All right, Steven?" Irene greeted him, raising her martini glass with a slight smile.

She hadn't taken him for a scotch drinker, but that was being filed away neatly, almost without Irene wanting to take note of the detail.

Marc would've been tempted to quickly switch out. Only problem was he'd already put in his drink order so that increased the odds of the switch being more obvious. And Marc actually kind of liked this bar so there it was.

"Marc, actually," he told Irene. And if his general demeanor didn't provide enough of a clue, the distinct lack of English accent might help.

It had been awhile since Irene had felt quite so stupid. It had been sitting there, staring her in the face the whole time. At least, if it was as simple as this suddenly looked to be, anyway. The Marc thing she couldn't suss out and the accent thing she couldn't suss out were the same stupid thing she should have realized ages ago.

"Sorry?" she replied, even though she'd heard him perfectly, American (Midwest?) accent and all. "You said your name is Marc?"

"Marc Spector," he told her, since they were on names still. She seemed to be having a different reaction to meeting him and Steven separately than other people did, so Marc figured wait and see how this played out before giving more details.

"Does this...work, normally?" Irene wondered, narrowing her eyes slightly and gesturing to Marc's person as a whole. Because really.

It might have gone over better if Steven had never mentioned a Marc for her to be curious about in the first place.
