The Park, Saturday Afternoon

"Okay," Will said, holding the tennis ball at the ready, "there you go, boy!" and he threw the ball, Kol bolting off after it.

And returning with a stick.

"Buddy," Will just laughed and shook his head as he wrestled the stick away from the dog and threw it.

Kol returned with the tennis ball.

Yeah, this pattern was going to repeat for a while.

Rey was passing through on her way back from training, and had to stop to watch, being glad she hadn't brought her staff today.

"Looks like he's having fun."

"He is," Will said, grinning. "And he's getting exercise, which is the important part, even if he's apparently forgotten how fetch is supposed to work."

Kol bounded proudly over to Rey to show off the stick he'd found. Which was clearly the best stick ever.

Rey of course had to kneel down to really look at it. "You're very lucky," she told Kol. "That's a very important stick."

Kol barked happily as he dropped the stick at her feet. This was why Rey was one of his favourite people; she knew all about sticks!

"If you throw it, who knows what he'll bring back," Will told her. At least once so far it had been neither the ball nor another stick but a rubber duck.

"Want to wager a guess?" Rey asked, taking the stick very carefully, because she was a friend, see.

"Almost certainly a tennis ball," Will said confidently.

"I'm going to say... a very different stick," Rey said, and threw it.

Dogs brought out all the best people.

Spotting Rey, Stark waved his free hand. "Hello, Rey."

"Hi, Stark," she smiled. "How are you?"

"I'm doing well," Stark said, looking faintly surprised at the last word. "The summer has been good. And you?"

[thatwaslucky]

"Good. Getting some training in before heading home for the week," Rey said. "And now getting some Kol time."

She would happily always become bffs with people's dogs.

"He's a good dog." They were, as far as Stark knew, all good dogs here. Possibly everywhere. He ought to spend more time with dogs.

"Going home again? For good reasons?"

"Maybe. I'm trying to be there when Finn and Poe get back from a mission," she explained. "I'm back home pretty often these days."

Stark had a coffee in hand as he walked in to the park and he stopped to watch the dog for a moment, smiling at him as he did.

"Hello, Will."

"How's it going?" Will asked, as Kol came prancing back with his latest treasure (a tennis ball that was not the tennis ball Will had left the apartment with today).

"Fairly well, I think," Stark said, still watching the dog because the dog was adorable.

"And you?"

Did Stark want to see the tennis ball? Of course he did! It was a great tennis ball!

"No complaints," Will admitted. Sure, sometimes he complained about how quiet it could get around here but right now he was feeling kind of okay with the quiet; the on-call job he'd picked up on the mainland was scratching most of that itch these days.

Stark did, Kol! He even knelt down to get a closer look and offered a hand for Kol to sniff. Or drop a tennis ball into if he felt the urge.

"That's good. I haven't seen you lately. I wondered." Partly he wondered how Will was doing with Stabby since Stabby did seem to take up most of the time at the clinic these days.

Oh, Kol super wanted to drop that drool-covered tennis ball into your hand, Stark.

"I've been working part-time over at a hospital on the mainland," Will shared. "Keeps me busy. Though they don't have a crab mascot."

Rosa had a dog, and sometimes that dog needed to go for a walk, and usually, that meant going to the park, and, unfortunately, that usually also meant that other people who had dogs were also in the park with said dogs.

And this time, that dog also had a tennis ball, which Anna Pavlova instantly honed in on the moment she saw it flying and then stopped and looked hopefully up at Rosa, tail wagging harder than her small puppy body seemed to be able to handle.

"Nyet," Rosa told her firmly. "Ne tvoya."

Apparently, Anna was hoping that if she stared at Rosa long enough with her adorable puppy dog eyes, she might change her mind.

She should know by now that Rosa was not one to lose a staring contest just because something was cute. In fact, that usually just made her more determined to win.

Well, that sure wasn't a tennis ball that Kol returned with, anyway?

"... That's a new one," he commented out loud as he wrestled the plushie away from Kol.

"Hey," he greeted Rosa. And then zeroed in on the dog, because he had no qualms about being suckered by cute things. "Who's this?"

Rosa didn't look at Will, not yet, because she was still locked in with the dog, though she did at least lift her chin in a sort of acknowledgement to the greeting. She narrowed her eyes at the pup's dumb, vacant expression before adding, "Anna Pavlova."

Who was...shockingly not being distracted by the potential attention she could be getting from Will, thus the suspicious narrowed eyes, except that Rosa knew Anna was not bright enough to be trying to pull something right now. She'd probably just forgotten that anything else was going on. So Rosa tried to quirk her head toward Will and his dog, so that Anna would notice and therefor break the deadlock they were in, but to no avail.

She did, however, give a belated bark at hearing her name, as if to confirm they, hey! Yes! She knew that name! That name meant her!

"She's very focused," Will commented, clearly amused by this deadlock.

"She's very stupid," Rosa corrected, shaking her head a little, while Anna, still not taking her eyes off Rosa's face, slowly lowered herself down on her belly. A few feverish thumps of her tail later, she rolled over on her back. Not looking away the whole time, either.

"She's a dog, not a PhD candidate," Will pointed out. "She doesn't need to be smart. Just cute." And she's clearly got that one nailed.
