The Photo Hut - Tuesday

Yesterday had not been a good day at all and Liz was even more tired and exhausted than normal, she knew she had to try and get some work done but work was the last thing that she felt like doing.

She sat at her computer and brought up the report that she had started last week so that she could try and get that finished today since she knew it would be hard to focus on anything on Thursday with it being the day before the anniversary but after yesterday she was having more trouble than normal trying to concentrate on anything and she spent more time staring at her unfinished report than doing any writing.

Around lunch time Steven appeared. He was holding a box from JGOB. "Hello, Liz! Doing all right?"

"I ... a bit better than yesterday, just really tired" Liz said softly as she glanced over from her computer when Steven came in, she had managed to get a bit of work done which was some progress, "yesterday was bad,"

Steven nodded sympathetically. "Well, lucky for you I've come bearing the most amazing surprise. Something that will blow your mind with how unexpected it is. You'll never be able to guess."

Steven came over to where Liz was and produced the box he'd been holding in plain sight with an exaggerated flourish. "Voila! Biscuits, just for you. Bet you're dead of surprise, yeah?"

He grinned at her. Since he'd asked her about it just last week obviously it was understood there was no surprise at all.

Liz managed a tired smile in response, “I’m very surprised,” she told him, she wished she could be a bit more enthusiastic but she still appreciated the thought, “thank you, it’s very kind of you,”

Steven didn't take the lack of enthusiasm personally. He knew it was a tough time for her even before the events of the previous day. He put the box on the counter and opened it so she could see. Inside were cookies cut into various shapes and then decorated with icing to resemble what they were meant to look like. "These seemed fun, is all. See? There's a camera, and a cat like your Rain. And an anvil since you're learning how to work with metal ~~and other moddable things as desired~~. Thought you might like them. You don't have to try them now if you're not feeling well. They're yours, do as you like with them."

Liz’s smile widened as she looked at the different designs, “oh wow,” she did look a bit happier as she did, even though it wasn’t a lot, “these are really great, thank you,” she said softly and she picked up the camera biscuit since she thought it was rather fitting that she was in the store.

“Did you want to try one?” she asked quietly as she turned the box back towards him a bit.

Steven was glad for any bit of comfort Liz could have at the moment, however small. "Cheers. Are you doing all right otherwise? As can be? The bears aren't bothering you, are they?"

Liz nodded, “I’m … I’m getting there, I managed to get some work done today, I think that’s progress,” there was a pause, ““I haven’t really being paying attention to them,” she admitted, “it took a while before I even realised what all that noise was,”

"Hopefully there's none about when you try to sleep tonight," Steven said. He knew she was having a hard time sleeping already, the noise wasn't going to make it any easier. "One of them - well, a group of them - have set up right in front of the museum. Lucky it's not so bad with the door closed but it's not exactly soothing, is it? Hardly any visitors today. Not that I blame them."

“I would definitely prefer it if there wasn’t any tonight,” Liz agreed softly, “I … I think I need to get as much sleep as I can, especially before it …” she bit her lip, “before it gets to Friday,” she knew she wasn’t going to be sleeping at by the end of the week. “I’m sorry you didn’t have many visitors though, maybe the Bears will be only a one day event like yesterday was,”

Liz was extremely relieved that today hadn't seen a repeat of all the emotional baggage.

"At least they only seem to be loud," Steven said. "Bad if you've a headache, easier on everyone's emotions, I'd imagine. Any plans for Friday? To help with things, I mean?"

“I’m not too sure,” Liz admitted quietly, “I - I guess try to keep busy, make sure I’m not alone,”

She really had no idea just what Fandom was planning on Friday.

"I've plans for lunch but otherwise I'm about," Steven said, since he also had no idea what was in store. "Or Marc, of course. Whatever you'd like."

Liz smiled softly at that “thank you,” she said, “ having the company will be nice, even though I - I don’t how I’ll be on Friday, I don’t know how much company I’ll be,” she admitted.

"Do you know where you'll be, Friday?" Steven asked, again having no idea that whatever plans Liz had in mind were probably going to be very much derailed. "I could stop by. Check on you. If you'd like."

“I’m not too sure yet,” Liz said softly, really having no idea just how bad she was going to be on Friday, “maybe I’ll just come into work, do a bit of photography?” she considered.

"Easy enough to stop by if you'd like," Steven said. "Or Marc, if you'd rather."

At least with Liz it was even odds on which one she might prefer in a pinch.

“I’d - I’d like that,” Liz said quietly, “I …I don’t mind if it’s you or Marc,” she told him.

"Could even be both," Steven said, joking a little. "Could distract you by keeping you guessing."

As though the accents wouldn't give it away as soon as they started talking.

Liz did smile at that, even though she had a feeling it wouldn’t take her long to guess who she was speaking to with the accents, “I wouldn’t say no to extra company,” she said softly.

"We'll try to stop by when you're about then," Steven said, making plans that Friday's events were probably going to ruin. "Of course you can always text or ring us if you need. Anytime. Marc even checks his mobile when it's you, you know."

Making Liz one of an extremely rare number of people.

“I will,” Liz promised, she paused, “I’ll most likely will call Marc a few times over the next few days,” she hesitated, “I ..I know how bad I can get, especially next week when …” her voice trailed off, “when it’s my …the anniversary of my family’s deaths,”

"Of course," Steven said. "Whatever you need from either of us. Happy to do it. Well, not happy it's needed, of course. But anything for a friend. Especially a good friend like you."

“Thank you,” Liz said softly, “to both you and Marc, I’m - I’m lucky that I have you both as friends, I - I don’t deserve it,”

"Now, I won't hear it," Steven said. He knew she felt guilty for what had happened between them. But he'd never blamed her for it. More to the point, he was thrilled that things between them seemed to be back the way they were. "Whatever nonsense happened it's in the past, yeah? We're all friends and we're lucky to have you."

Liz bit her lip, she could feel the tears starting to build again since it seemed she hadn’t cried enough yesterday. She blinked them back but she let out a sob.

“I - I wouldn’t have blamed you, you or Marc if you didn’t want to be my friend anymore, after everything ...” she said softly, especially since she had received fresh reminders of her actions yesterday.

"Now, now, none of that," Steven said, gently. He held his arm out to offer a hug if she wanted one. "I wouldn't have blamed you if you asked never to see me again either. Shows how strong the friendship is, yeah? It's what friends do, anyway, isn't it? Understand bumps that come up along the way?"

Liz could only nod at that and went in for that hug as a few more tears started to escape … “I … I’m glad that we can still be friends,” she told him as she let out another sob.

"Shh, it's all right," Steven said. He gently rubbed her shoulder, silently letting her know she could cry all she needed. "I'm glad too. Honest."
