Well, this week just continued in being A Week, judging by the phone calls coming into the station.

"No, ma'am, there's nothing illegal about sitting on a park bench and looking sad."

It was up there with Bee Lady calls, to be honest.

"Yes, I did hear how ineffective they are at feeding the birds. Still not a crime."

Steve sauntered into the office like he hadn't just...taken off for space for a bit. "Aloha."

"Aloha? Aloha? That's what you have to say?" Danny demanded, because shouting out of worry was his love language.

"I left a note!" Steve protested.

[hatesparadise]

"A note. I swear to God, I will strangle you one day," Danny replied.

"It was only a day and I didn't go off without telling you!"

So, progress! If you were Steve!

"I suppose I should be glad it wasn't another month long sojourn," Danny replied sarcastically. "Are you hurt?"

Because that meant more yelling.

Steve decided that bruises didn't count.

"Nope."

[hatesparadise]

"You know I'll see, right?"

[grenadesandohana]

"Bruises don't count!"

Sure.

[hatesparadise]

"Are you nuts?" Danny asked. "Bruises definitely count."

[grenadesandohana]

"It's not like the bruising I got when I was stuck in Halawa or anything," Steve said, which, low bar to clear. "Just a little from when I had to punch out of the ship."

"You what?"

[grenadesandohana]

"Ejected!" Steve said.

Into space. As you do.

Which was why Danny just aggressively gestured in impotent rage/worry.

"It was better than crashing!"

This was in no way helping you, Steve.

"Come here," Danny snapped, angrily holding his arms out for a hug.

[grenadesandohana]

"Are gonna smack me?" Steve asked warily, stepping closer.

[hatesparadise]

"I haven't decided," Danny informed him, pulling Steve into a tight hug.

Steve hugged him back, holding on tightly. "I'm completely fine."

[hatesparadise]

"You better be," Danny grumbled, doing more clinging than the office warranted.

"I got to fly in space," Steve said with a little smile. "It was incredible."

[hatesparadise]

That got him smack, but it was a gentle one. "Don't go borrowing trouble, you hear me?"

"Would I do that?"

Daily, and they both knew it.

"Constantly." You were so lucky that Danny trusted you, Steve.

Steve beamed at him. "I missed you."

[hatesparadise]

"You owe me coffee and then a back rub for all the stress you put me through," Danny informed him, giving a quick, playful little tug on his hair as he stepped back to a professional distance.

Professional for them, that is.

Steve grinned. "The back rub will have to wait, but coffee sounds good."

[hatesparadise]

"Get a move on then, babe," Danny replied. "And maybe check on this weird call about someone feeding the birds."

Or get stuck on the bench with them.

He definitely was getting stuck on the bench. "I'll be right back!"

Yeah, that tracked for Steve.

"Get donuts too!"

Or lunch. Post-bench.

"You don't need donuts," Steve told him unwisely.

[hatesparadise]

"Yes I do." He deserved donuts for not calling Joe to track Steve down.

Joe would definitely track Steve to space. Doris probably knew a guy.

"Fine. One donut. Not fried."

Why do you hate joy, Steve. Why.

"How do you make a donut without frying it?" Danny asked, making a face.

[grenadesandohana]

"I think they can bake 'em," Steve said.

[hatesparadise]

"That's a muffin!" Guys, please don't.

[grenadesandohana]

"Muffins don't come in circles," Steve said.

[hatesparadise]

"Well, what you're describing is a circular muffin," Danny countered.

[grenadesandohana]

"Or a cake donut," Steve counter-countered.

[hatesparadise]

""Those are still fried!" He was a beat cop once, he knew.

[grenadesandohana]

"Who fries a cake?" Steve demanded, feeling personally betrayed by cake donuts now.

Oh no, he just crushed Steve's world, didn't he?

"People who make donuts!"

[grenadesandohana]

"That's just not right!"

Guess who'd suffered under the delusion that cake donuts were better for him. Go on, Danny, guess.

Was this why he always bought those things instead of the vastly superior malasadas?

"They put it in a crank thing and it drops batter into the oil."

Just ruining Steve's day.

Steve shuddered. "I'm bring you back green juice," he threatened. "And I'll tell Grace to make sure you drink it."

"You will not!" This was bullying here.

[grenadesandohana]

"Watch me!" Steve threatened, marching out the door.

[hatesparadise]

"You're an ass!" Trying to deprive this poor, poor man of his donuts.
