The Photo Hut - Friday Afternoon

Liz had eventually made her way back to the store, even though she wasn’t really aware that was the direction she was going in.

She was trying to not think about how much fire there was around, that there was a display of fire in the windows of the store as well.

That was when she decided to place a call to Marc since she had told both him and Steven she’d check in with him if she need to call.

She wasn’t really sure what she was going to do though, she hadn’t thought that far and she mostly just stared at the computer without turning it on, maybe she could try and get some work done?

Marc showed up not long after Liz's call. "Hey."

“Hey,” Liz said very quietly, trembling slightly as she did, “thank you for coming over,” she told him.

"Don't worry about it," Marc told her. "Shitty day, huh?"

Understatement of the century, perhaps.

Liz tried to laugh at that but it came out in a sob instead.

“I’ve had better days,” she admitted.

Somehow managing to not burst into tears.

"All that and you can't even drink," Marc said, with sympathy. Both for the stress, and for the removal of his favorite coping mechanism. Well, technically his second favorite. "Between this and Monday the island's really been fucking with you."

“I really wish I could,” Liz admitted, a hand going to her stomach, just to remind herself why she couldn’t just drink away her problems, also she didn’t want to end up in the clinic.

“I …I just want it to stop,” she said quietly, the tears starting to fall down her cheeks,” I’m so tired,”

"And you've got next week on deck too," Marc said. He leaned against the counter to make himself comfortable while they were talking. "It's a marathon. No question."

“What if the fire doesn’t go away?” Liz whispered, the idea of there being more fire on the anniversary of the death of her family terrified her ..”I …what if the fire is still here next week?”

"Seems like they're one and done so far," Marc pointed out. Though at that moment there was no way of telling if this particular bullshit was going to last a few days like the reunion did. "And if it does last we could get you out of town, right? Hit DC or something."

Liz nodded, trying to wipe away those tears as they kept falling, “I’d - Id like that,” she said quietly, “it’s hard, being surrounded by all this fire …it’s like …the island wants to keep reminding me, even …even though I don’t need the reminder of what I’ve done,” she let out another sob.

"Island kinda sucks sometimes," Marc said. "Especially for what you're dealing with."

“It’s - I ,” Liz started to say and then stopped,, “I knew it was going to be bad today, I …didn’t …” she paused, “I …um went by the Trooper station today,” she admitted.

Marc knew how weird - and seemingly flammable - things had been over there. "That can't have been easy."

It had been a pretty wild week all around, so Summer was not at all surprised that she'd forgotten she'd wanted to talk to Liz about some Polaroid cameras for her class on Monday....but of course the day she remembered was, you know, the day the world was allegedly on fire. When the pyrokinetic with the PTSD had already been having a shit week.


So she was definitely starting in with a text:

Heeeey, baaaabe. U doin ok?

It had been a day and Liz was exhausted and just wanted it to be over.

Honestly she just wanted the week to be over.

She had not been paying attention when Summer’s text had come through and she jumped slightly when it did.

not really Liz wrote back and then she considered that and added. no. Im not doing okay she admitted.

Hey, she was doing well enough to respond! That was something!

want sum company? I wanted to talk to you about sum cameras actually if u think ur up to it

yes please Liz wrote back I - I’d like company

She wasn’t sure how much company she was going to be but she knew it was better than being alone Im feeling up to talking about cameras, I can help you with those

Summer's response was simple and easy.

cool. Meet u @ the PH? I can bring pancakes too.

A pause.

the cat. Not the food.

Although i guess if u want those too? But i was thinking maybe the girls are a little overdue for a playdate anyway, and the fire's got her frustrated because i think she actually DOES want to watch the world burn

Ok at the PH Liz wrote back .I - I’d like that. Rain’s at Dr. Lecter’s I haven’t been back since this morning she paused even though I can go and get her - it’s not far from the store she realised

Liz was really tired and not making much sense even though actual pancakes does sound pretty good she added, realising she hadn’t eaten since breakfast.

ok I’ll go and get Rain Liz wrote back and then she left the store to head round the corner to Dr. Lecter’s to pick up Rain and her things and came back.

Rain wasn’t too sure what was happening but she wasn’t too bothered by the fire and was purring loudly when Liz got back to the store and set up an area for her and Pancakes on the floor.

And, not too much longer after that, Summer breezed into the Photo Hut with to-go boxes from Luke's in one hand and Pancakes tucked underneath her other arm, looking....relatively resigned to this just being her lot in life.

"Here you go!" Summer reported brightly, handing over the boxes to Liz while dropping Pancakes unceremoniously to the floor. "I know it's not ice cream, but still try not to fall too much in love with me now."

Don't think having a shit week saves you from a cheap shot, Liz.

“Thank you,”. Liz managed to look sheepish despite how tired she was looking as she accepted the boxes.

Also she still felt very guilty for what happened.

“I …I’ll try not to,” she said very quietly.

"It was just a joke, Liz," Summer reminded her, but not without sympathy, and she nodded at the box. "Dig in. You'll feel better after you eat something."

Liz glanced down at the box and nodded, “I - I haven’t eaten since breakfast,” she admitted as she placed them on the counter and opened one of them to start eating.

Her stomach grumbled as if on cue.
