The Photo Hut - Tuesday

Yesterday had been nice, getting to spend it with Prompto and moving the rest of her belongings back to the apartment and putting her plants and photos up as well and it was also nice having Rain back.

Since she didn’t have too much work at the store and had caught up on her reports for Professor Broom, she thought she’d take the time to go through her photos. In particular now that she had her camera with her, she thought she would take the time to print out all the photos that she had taken of her pregnancy journey for Prompto while he had been gone. She wanted to have the photos in a nice album for him, even though there were going to be plenty of more photos added to the ones that had already been taking but she still wanted to be able to set up the photos for him.

She was also picking some photos for her memory boards, normally she would have brought them down but they were starting to get a bit heavy to carry and she thought it best to do the actual rearranging upstairs.

Come lunchtime there was a Steven sneaking over from the museum on his break. He held a small gift bag in his hand and waved hello with the other. "Hello, Liz! Have a moment?"

"Steven, hi," Liz smiled as she looked up from her photos that were spread out over the counter, "of course, I have a moment," she nodded.

"Right, so, bit of explanation with this one." Steven presented her with the bag, inside of which were two apple cupcakes from JGoB carefully placed inside cupcake containers. "It's new year, see? And normally you do apples and honey to wish a sweet year. Only I read honey isn't good for babies. Didn't know if that included when they're still inside. Thought best not to risk it.

"Still want you to have a sweet year though so I hope cupcakes are all right? One for you and Prompto, I figured?"

"Thank you that's very nice of you," Liz smiled, "cupcakes are definitely all right," she nodded.

She paused, "I think honey might be okay but I suppose it might be one of those things that's okay in moderation?" she tilted her head, "but I'll definitely give Prompto his cupcake,"

"Did you have a nice new year?" she asked, she wasn't overly familiar with the Jewish calendar but she did know new year was one of the important holidays.

"It's from me and Marc," Steven said, so that was clear. Marc of course was not the type to do this kind of thing but Steven knew he wished Liz well regardless. "And yeah. Date night with Llewellyn yesterday. Not official by any religious standards but I'm all right with it as something sweet to start my year."

Steven's smile indicated he was more than all right with how the evening had gone. "How about you? Weekend go all right? It was great meeting your Hellboy. Loved seeing his photos."

“Thank you both for the cupcakes,” Liz smiled at that, “and I’m glad that you and Detective Watts had a good time last night,” she was still not sure about calling by his first name.

Her smile widened at the last question, “I did have a good weekend, it … was nice seeing Hellboy and Professor Broom again I hadn't seen them since my birthday," she said thinking just how much had changed in the last few months, "he definitely loved showing you his photos," she added, “I think he wanted to bring the cats with him but Professor Broom told him no but he still got to spend time with Joni - that’s Dr. Lecter’s kitten, on Sunday as well and Rain too,” she said, “it was also nice meeting Layla and Taweret,” she told him.

"They're brilliant, aren't they?" Steven said. "It's wild you got to meet the both of them. Though suppose not so strange in hindsight. You with the little one and all. And now you've met Layla that's two of my dearest friends knowing each other."

Llewellyn, of course, counting as much more than a friend.

“They are,” Liz smiled, “they were both really nice and I’m glad you were able to meet Hellboy as well,” she added, “thank you again for letting me tell him the truth,”

"Honestly it was just as helpful to me and Marc," Steven said. "Bit of a surprise him walking up and knowing. But relief after, yeah? Never met someone before and not have to lie to them. Maybe - maybe a good sign for the future. Us telling more people."

Steven rubbed his hands nervously against the counter, but in spite of that he did still sound optimistic.

Liz nodded and gave a smile at that, "I hope it gets easier for you, I haven't told Prompto though, he doesn't know the truth yet ...I ... I guess I'm still nervous bringing everything up," she admitted.

"In your own time," Steven assured her. He indicated the cupcakes. "Won't hold it against you if you don't tell them those are from me either. I'll understand."

“I will tell him, I know it has to come up eventually” Liz said softly, biting her lip as she glanced down at the cupcakes, “but I’ll still tell him they’re from you though,” she added.

"I do hope his new year is sweet," Steven said, if that helped. "You and him and, well, her."

He gestured towards Liz's stomach. "Maybe this time next year she'll be grown enough for her own cupcake."

Given that she was going to be born in February, no she would not. Steven really needed to read up more on child development.

Liz smiled, “I hope your new year is sweet as well, for you and Marc,” she told him.

She looked fondly down at her stomach, placing a hand on her bump, “I think she might be a bit too young for cupcakes then,"

"She will?" Steven asked. Then, knowing that, he said as a joke, "Maybe just a small one. Inch big. Perfect size for her."

Liz giggled at that, “well I think Prompto and I might still be helping her eat it,” she smiled at that, “but we can take a lot of photos with her cupcake instead, she’ll know she wasn’t missing out that way,”

"There you are then, perfect," Steven said. Liz mentioning photos reminded him he had something else he wanted to ask her. "Oh! Nearly forgot. While I'm on holiday with Llewellyn, would it be all right if you checked on Marc's aloe plant as well? Just a little thing, only needs a bit of water. But it was a gift from Nell so extra reason to make sure it's cared for properly."

“I can definitely do that,” Liz promised, “does it need watering every day or every other day?” she asked since she knew the plants she had didn’t need that much water overall.

"Not much at all," Steven said. "It's why it nearly slipped my mind until Lana mentioned it. I'll write out everything you need to know. Send it to you in an email. Including how you tell Jordie and Ellis apart."

If asked, Marc would tell Liz the fish were identical. Steven felt this was only because Marc didn't bother to look closely.

"That would definitely be helpful, I don't want you to have to worry about your fish or plant while you're on vacation," Liz told him.

"Huge load off my mind knowing it's you doing it," Steven said. "Not only because I know you'll take good care of them. It's we trust you. Marc and me. Not many people we'd feel safe being in the flat while we're away. Can't thank you enough for it."

Liz smiled at that, “I’m happy to help you, thank for trusting me to look after everything while you’re away,” she told him, it meant a lot that both Steven and Marc felt comfortable with her going over every day to look after their fish and plant.

"Who's one of the nicest friends someone could have then? You." Steven smiled at her. "Right, I should jog on. Was already late for work this morning. Can't be late from lunch on top of it. Enjoy the cupcakes. Sweet new year to the three of you. Well, four. Rain's included as well of course."
