Cafe Fina - Tuesday Evening
It was Prompto’s birthday and Liz wanted to take him out to a nice dinner and so she decided to take him to Cafe Fina, which was special to them because it had been the location of their first date and that was nearly a year ago now for her as well.
Even though she wasn’t sure if it was completely safe for her eat Sea Bass this time.
For the dinner, Liz was wearing one of her maternity dresses, a slightly different style and colour to the one that she had worn at the wedding.
She had her camera ready to take pictures throughout the evening and her main present to give Prompto, since she had finished knitting him his scarf, done in yellow and white and a few other gifts that she had wanted to give him as well.
“This is nice,” she remarked once they had been shown to their table, “I don’t think this place has actually changed all that much since the last time we were here,”
She knew it had been much longer for Prompto than for her but she also hadn’t been back since their date so she was a little surprised to see that it still looked very much the same since as it had last time.
[for Prompto. Cafe Fina can also be open for anyone else wanting to use the restaurant!]

"But they've been everywhere all day," he finished as they got settled at the table, "so my guess if more Fandom thing than Fina. But you're right. This is nice. Thanks for thinking of it."
no subject
Her smile widened at the last part, "you're welcome, and happy birthday," she added, in case she hadn't been saying it enough throughout the day, "I hope you've been having a nice birthday,"

There was, really, only one thing he could think of that could improve it, and that thing was impossible, so no one could be faulted for that. But thinking about it then meant giving Liz's hand just a little bit of an extra squeeze.
"This really all has been...mind-blowingly great," he added, and he was almost compelled to add something about it being too much, or him not really deserving it, or something self-deprecating like that, but he managed to hold it back.

"I'd be a little concerned," he noted, tilting his grin her way, "if it was. There are much cheaper ways to get food poisoning, anyway."
no subject
“That is true,” she noted, “we could definitely have gone somewhere other than here for that but hopefully this will be a nice evening out, dinner, dessert …after dessert,” she added with a grin.

And what a fun way for him to be reminded, later on that evening, that he was definitely not the twenty-year-old he had been earlier that year this was going to be!

"Challenge accepted."
Hey, that alternate future with twelve kids didn't just manifest out of thin air, people.
But lest all other potential futures be rendered unlikely due to Liz's untimely death from too much blushing become a concern, he chuckled faintly, he offered, "We'll never get to dessert, much less extra dessert, if we don't start maybe figuring out what we're ordering, first and foremost...."

She smiled shyly at him, still very red as she glanced back at her menu, “I suppose choosing our meals like last time won’t work tonight,” she considered, “especially if I end up with something that I can’t eat,”

But Prompto was feeling a lowkey panic of a different kind in that moment, blinking at Liz now with a spark of confusion. "Like last time?" he asked, and then desperately tried to scour his memories from some small detail from ten very long years ago to pop out at him. He remembered them coming here for their first date, but everything else, including what they'd had, was pretty fuzzy. How had they decided? Wasn't it just...
"Oh! That's right!" His laugh was just as relieved to have found it as it was victorious. "We just picked something random, right? Closed our eyes, let fate decide?"
Fate had been much better to Liz than it had been to him, he remembered that now, too!
"I mean," he offered, with a little bit of a grin, "we could still try that. If you land on something you can't eat, I'll just have it, or you just go until you pick something that works. Though there's definitely a few things on this menu I haven't even thought of in ages..."

Liz smiled, even though she felt rather bad that she hadn’t clarified what she had meant like last time - that it had been much longer for Prompto than her since their last date.
“We did close our eyes and leave it up to fate,” she nodded, “well … it could be kind of fun to try and see what we end up with?” she considered, “and then if you want, we can order additional meals as well?” she suggested.

He threw in a wink there, unable to help himself, apparently not willing to completely stave off putting the whole island at risk tonight for an opening like that.

He shook her head a little, but it did nothing to tamper down that grin.
"And you should definitely be picking what you want, too, especially considering it's two of you that has to enjoy it."
no subject
She paused as she took a moment to have a look through the menu, “I’m not sure what we want to eat,” she admitted, “what do you think you’ll have?“
Maybe it would help give her some ideas.

"Honestly?" he then said, his attention turned away from self-deprication and back to the menu. "The risotto keeps trying to pull me in, but then there's this creamy Tuscan salmon? It almost sounds like something they used to have at these diners, in Lucis."
He hesitated a moment, not wanting to bring too much of darkness of Eos into this nice, bright night, looking over at Liz to gauge her reaction as he nudged a little bit further. "The Crow's Nest. Did I ever tell you about those? It sounds like something they served there, only, you know, fancier."
no subject
Her expression softened, ready to listen to Prompto talk if he wanted to about Eos and Lucis, “I don’t think you ever mentioned those,” she said as she thought back to the conversations they had had, “it does sound wonderful,” she said, she didn’t want to push if he wasn’t ready but she would listen as long as he needed.

Although he'd seen that guy dig into some Kenny's Salmon though with relish, so he suspected Ignis liked it more than he let on, but now he was feeling himself get sad from remembering, and then he felt bad for bringing sadness into this very nice birthday dinner, so he pushed through with a smile and a shrug of his shoulder.
"Anyway," he said, trying to make himself feel as light as he'd said it, "I think that's what I'll have."
no subject
“I think I might have the risotto,” she considered, “that definitely sounds like something we both could go for,”
no subject
"Then it sounds like we've got ourselves a plan."
no subject
“So we’ll have the two mains, did you want anything else to go with it or just see how we go with these dishes first?" she asked as she put down her menu.

Ten-year-old him would be so shocked and appalled at this man who actually was pretty sure he could eat salads all day now and be perfectly content with that.
"Again," he grinned, his thumb now rubbing against the back of Liz's hand a little, "don't want to fill up too much..."
And, yes, he was probably going to bring that up every chance he got now, especially if it continued to make her blush and giggle the way it had before.

"And now," he grinned over at Liz again, "we wait.
"Thanks again for this," he added, after a moment of just enjoying everything again.
no subject
She paused, realising how that sounded, “I mean actual gifts that are wrapped, for your birthday … um …” and cue the blushing again.
no subject
"Well, I wouldn't think yoi'd be offering to give those kinds of gifts now," he teased, "although that would be a very nice way to pass the time while we wait."
no subject
“I mean we could do that instead, there’s not many people here and it is your birthday,” she considered with a shy smile.
no subject
"We could," Prompto agreed, trying to look particularly thoughtful on this proposition, but it was a little bit spoiled by his grin and the return of his own blush, not nearly so bright and red as Liz's, but undeniable in its presence. "You make some pretty good points, but I do like this place. I'm not sure they'd let us back in after that....even if it is my birthday."
Which, well, technically, it wasn't really anyway.
no subject
Liz giggled, “I mean I would also like to come back here,” she agreed, “I wouldn't want us to get kicked out, I think that would be a very a poor way to end the evening,”

This was, after all, the same guy who'd managed to be one of the few students to actually get detentions in recent years....

Hopefully she wouldn’t combust either.

"I don't mind waiting for gifts," Prompto told Liz, grinning a little more, leaning forward a lot more, feeling grateful that these tables weren't too big to make something like this incredibly awkward, "but maybe..." The grin went crooked with a new splash of pink and freckles across his cheeks, "...you could still give me a hint..."
