Pick Your Poison, Thursday

It had been a while since Margo had actually bothered to show up at the shop herself, so... now there were a bunch of dead things in the windowsills.

"Ugh, I am so not made out to be a flower girl," she muttered, as she diligently removed each dead plant and replaced it with something greener and more colorful.

"Ugh, plants. So fussy." Eliot shook his head as he swanned in. "This is why I could never have been a Nature kid."

"He is indeed a mystery," Eliot agreed, and frowned. "Do try not to injure yourself, Bambi."

"Ah." Eliot nodded and pulled out his flask. "Well, I do have one of our usual cures for thinking with me, if you'd care for a nip."

Yes, Eliot. Everyone knew by now that you always have a flask with you.

"Of course," Eliot said, tucking the flask away again and looping his arm around her shoulders. "Any time, darling."

Eliot . . . actually probably knew how to fix the plant. But he wasn't about to dig into his farm-boy memories to find out.

"I think what we really need here are some artistic fakes."

"I was thinking silk, but sure. Or . . . glass, maybe. Still classy, but less likely to die when you forget to water it."

"I was thinking of a deliberately not alive look, but I see where you're going," Eliot said. "But really, Bambi, what on earth were we going to do with plant magic that we couldn't just make a natural kid do for us?" He sighed. "Shit, now I miss -- nature kids."

Not Hoberman. He served his purpose but it wasn't any purpose that Eliot couldn't find elsewhere, at least in their native world.

"Well there's an image," Eliot said with a sigh. "Silk it is. Only the highest end, most realistic silk plants that require only the occasional dusting spell for my Bambi."
