Wanda was in a pretty good mood when she opened the store this morning. Her most recent session studying the Darkhold had been pretty successful, and she now knew she was looking for a person, not a thing. Which made things more difficult, yes, but it was a step closer to her goal.

So, look at her being in a good mood, putting on music and dragging Jeff's turkey outfit out of storage to put on him.

Marc came by late morning because he did mornings like a weirdo. He was carrying a shopping bag but once again he was distracted by Jeff before anything else.

"He has outfits?"

"Oh yeah, tons of them," Wanda said. "I usually go all out for Halloween but this year it got away from me. But he's usually dressed for every holiday."

"Arbor Day must be a blast," Marc said.

[scarlet_chaos]

"Jeff looks great as a big tree," Wanda joked. "You'd be surprised what kind of costumes I can find on the internet."

[hasaknightjob]

"I've been to Irene's store so I might not," Marc pointed out. He came over and put the bag on the counter. "There. I've made sure you've eaten something. Chicken Caesar salad. Go nuts."

Did he even need to say who put him up to this?

"Aw, Marc," Wanda said, breaking out into a grin. "Did you give in to Steven's peer pressuring?"

"You have no idea how much a pain in the ass he can be," Marc said, but his voice lacked a real note of complaint.

"Oh I find that hard to believe," Wanda joked. "I am very appreciative, if that makes you feel any better about it."

It did, actually. But Marc didn't admit such things. Often not even to himself.

"Protein, vegetables, carbs." You know, if you counted the croutons. "Figured something in there would work."

"It'd be hard to bring me a food I wouldn't eat," Wanda shared. "Just in case you get the urge to bring me food and there's only Twinkies around."

"Good to know." Marc leaned against the counter to make himself comfortable. "Steven's vegan. I'm kosher - ish. Hard to be strict when you're on the road but easy to avoid a bacon cheeseburger, you know?"

"I get it," she said. "Growing up a lot of the time you had to take what you could get. Preferences were a luxury."

The supply chains in Sokovia were kind of rough when you were being bombed constantly.

Marc nodded since he understood. "I was never stationed near there. Mainly Middle East. Officially and unofficially, you know?"

[scarlet_chaos]

"Oh, wow," Wanda said, eyebrows lifting up towards her hairline. "I can't even imagine what that would be like. Or want to, for that matter."

"It's as much fun as it sounds," Marc agreed. "Dying was the highlight."

Given their previous conversation Marc figured Wanda wouldn't find that comment too weird.

Nah, she didn't think it was that weird, between this town and the rest of her life.

"You know, that's one thing you have me beat at."

[hasaknightjob]

"Well you can easily kick my ass so I've got to bring something to the party," Marc replied. "Keep it interesting."

"It is an impressive party trick," Wanda admitted. "Was it just the one time or do you have an immortality thing going on?"

[hasaknightjob]

"Twice so far," Marc said. "Part of the avatar deal. Long as I work for Konshu he brings me back. There's healing too, if I'm in the suit."

[scarlet_chaos]

"You have a suit?" Wanda asked. "Is it a cool suit?"

[hasaknightjob]

"It's not bad," Marc said. He gestured to his shoulders and chest to indicate general shape. "Ceremonial armor. Keeps everything covered, though the part around my head can come off if I need it. Came with the job."

And was way cooler than Steven's version.

"That's pretty cool. And convenient!" she said. "I had to design my own, and that was after years of wearing a corset to fight."

[hasaknightjob]

"Steven picked his," Marc said. He rolled his eyes. "Sort of. Mainly he didn't know any better. At least his doesn't have a corset. How'd you even breathe in that thing?"

"Breathing was easy. It was more--" She gestured vaguely at her chest. "Making sure everything stayed in place."

[hasaknightjob]

"Oh yeah, same problem," Marc said, making the same gesture towards himself as though he had anything in common with Wanda's shape. "That's what the chest piece is for."

[scarlet_chaos]

"Oh yeah, I'm sure you had the exact same problem," she said with a grin. "My new one keeps me covered up to my neck. And it comes with a cape, which is pretty awesome."

[hasaknightjob]

"Yours help with flight too?" Marc asked.

[scarlet_chaos]

"Nope, just for show," Wanda admitted. "Comes with a tiara too that's just for show. Maybe it intimidates my enemies."

[hasaknightjob]

"Can't throw it at your enemies?" Marc asked. "Blind them or something?"

It was the little things that showed the two people in this room had slightly different fighting styles.

[scarlet_chaos]

"That would be pretty cool, actually," Wanda said, imagining whipping off her tiara and hurling it at people. "I do tend to throw whatever is on hand but usually it's, like, cars."

[hasaknightjob]

"So corset, tiara - is there a sash that comes with it?" Marc indicated something going diagonally across his chest. "Says Ms Ass Kicker on it?"

Marc didn't actually think Wanda's outfit looked like a beauty pageant contestant's but he was going to tease a little anyway. Whether that was due to him enjoying Wanda's company or due to his lack of self preservation skills was an excellent question.

"It's more of a witchy vibe," Wanda assured him. "A lot of red. What about you--you have a color scheme?"

[hasaknightjob]

"Sorry, Ms Red," Marc replied, as though that had been the correction. "And white. It's a whole mummy vibe I guess. Konshu's got the same thing going."

Everyone could now pause to appreciate not having to imagine Konshu naked.

[scarlet_chaos]

"...I hope it magically keeps itself clean." It was brave wearing white in their line of work.

[hasaknightjob]

"Doesn't actually get blood stains on it," Marc said, now that she made him think about it. "Don't know if that's because of the healing or what. Could be magic stain removal. Probably the only way Steven's suit stays clean."

Because even Steven would admit he was the one most likely to accidentally spill something on himself.
