Ugh. Prompto really needed to get off his phone. He should probably go help Apu out with some stocking shelves or whatever, but he'd reach a point in his research on a certain something that had sucked him so far down a rabbit hole, he was suddenly feeling overwhelmed and that maybe he'd gotten himself in too deep. What if Liz didn't like what he picked out? What if he was wrong about this whole entire thing? Why were they all so damn expensive?? How was he going to even afford it? Should he really be spending money on something like that when he was going to have a kid he was going to have to support?

So there would be a lot of fidgeting and worrying and stressed out energy from the man behind the register that day, and a lot of distraction, and maybe a few attempts to hype himself up that it would be worth it. He would just....really have to start pushing his freelance work to pick up a good amount of photography gigs, really amp up his stock shots and the website, maybe even talk to Summer about getting a few....dozen advances on his paycheck, or work out some kind of loan...

There was....probably...something going on in the store, thanks to Apu, but Prompto barely even noticed it if there was.

It took Liz a bit going that morning to get lunch ready and to make her way over to Turtle & Canary to visit Prompto for lunch but she was able to organise everything and still get there on lunchtime.

“Hi,” she smiled brightly as she made her way to the counter, “how’s your morning been?”

When Liz came in, Prompto was leaning on the counter, frowning deeply at the phone cradled in both his hands, all his weight on one foot while the other bounced anxiously. When he looked up to see that it was her, his eyes widened for a moment before he quickly fumbled his thumbs over the screen to tap out of a few browsers, let out a nervous sort of laugh, and quickly tucked that phone away.

"Hey," he then breathed out, with a smile that he hoped would detract from the blush splotched across his face, but he knew it wouldn't. "It's been good! Quiet! You know? How 'bout yours? Good? Feeling okay? You look great."

But he did kind of always think that, anyway.

Liz noticed that Prompto did seem a little red but she figured he had been busy all morning, despite him adding that it had been quite all morning.

She smiled, “I’ve been feeling good,” she told him, “my ankles don’t feel as bad this morning,” she added, which considering the amount of trouble they had been causing her, it was nice to feel a little bit of relief.

"Good," Prompto said, beaming a little to hear it. "I'm glad. And not just because that means I'm not going to have to depend on just Squishies for lunch today."

You know, in the store literally filled with food.

"Hey," he added, "did you know homecoming is tonight?"

By now, he was feeling pretty in pace with the flow of time, and then something like that happened and made him feel slightly off-kilter all over again.

Liz smiled at that, “I actually didn’t realise it was homecoming,” she admitted, she had been a little out of the loop with alumni news over the last couple of weeks.

“I can’t believe how quickly that’s come back round,” she smiled as she remembered how nice it had been with Prompto last year, even before their first date.

"You think you might want to go?" Prompto asked, brows lifted curiously, as he flopped his hand, palm up, over the counter, in a little subtle suggestion for Liz's to join it. Not because he wanted to do another estimation on sizes or anything like that; he'd honestly had enough of thinking about that for the time being, and was just eager for something nice and simple and uncomplicated as holding the hand of the woman he loved while asking her if she wanted to go to some silly school dance.

Liz smiled brightly at that and placed her hand on Prompto’s open palm, enjoying the comfort of the gesture.

“You know that would be nice, going to homecoming,” she told him, her smile widening, “I think I would feel up to it,”

And that answer was going to get a little bit of an extra brighteness in Prompto's smile, as his hand light squeezed hers. "Yeah?" he asked, honestly a little surprised to hear it, especially with how rough the last week had been for her. "Obviously, we don't have to stay very long at all if you're not feeling up to it, but it makes sense, right? Two old alumni like ourselves, and me having finally come home?"

He definitely didn't want to fling that symbolism in her face if she wasn't feeling up to going, but since she seemed willing to give it a try....it was hard not to feel compelled to lean into it a little. Probably kind of silly, really, but...well, he always had been pretty sentimental about things...

Liz smiled warmly at that, “I think it would be a nice evening for all of us,” she added, placing a hand on her bump, “I don’t think I’ll be up to dancing for the fast songs but slow dancing sounds lovely,” she told him.

"I like the slow songs, too," Prompto assured her with a fond, almost blissful sort of smile. "Especially when I'm dancing to them with you."

Liz started to go rather red and she smiled shyly up at Prompto, “you know …that’s what I like about the slow songs too, being able to dance them with you,” she told him, her smile widening.

"Yeah," Prompto agreed softly, eyes still doting, grin going s little crooked, and heart deciding that it didn't matter what it cost, he was getting her that ring, dammit. "Rain's no good at the slow dances, you're definitely way better. She just end up climbing on my shoulders and making me do all the work."

Liz giggled, shaking her head at that, “that does sound like Rain all right,” she gave a shy smile, “well hopefully I can be better at slow dancing than Rain, maybe we can even get in a couple of slow dances?” she suggested with a warm smile.

"At least I know I can trust you to keep your feet on the ground, anyway," Prompto agreed. Well, except maybe during some inevitable moment where he decided to be dramatic and just sweep her off of them, anyway. "I'd love it if we could squeeze a few of them in there. But only," and he gave her a look, a warning one, one that told her she'd better not be trying to tough it out just for his sake, "if you're feeling up to it, okay?"

Liz gave a warm smile, “I’ll let you know if it gets too much for me,” she assured him, “but I would love to try and get a few dances with you,”

"Then I think," said Prompto happily, "we have a plan. And," reluctant as he was to do it, he pulled his hand away from Liz's so that he could see about that food she'd brought in, "we should probably get to that lunch now. We'll need all the energy we can get if we're going to be dancing the night away."

Liz was rather reluctant to let go but she knew it was important that she should eat something, especially while they were going to Homecoming later, “we probably should,” she agreed and then as if on cue her stomach started rumbling and then she blushed, “I think someone else is hungry as well,” she said with a shy smile.

"Yeah," Prompto's grin was instantly an outpouring of fondness again, as he started pulling out the food and passing it over, "someone's always hungry. She probably gets that from me."

Or, you know, that whole growing from tiny little bean into tiny little person in less than a year thing.
