J, Gob - Wednesday afternoon

Liz had gone out for a walk that morning since it had been a couple of weeks since she had had a long walk and by the time she finished she was craving a mint chocolate cake and so she decided to stop by the bakery before she headed back home.

She sent a message to let Prompto know where she was and then settled down to take it easy after her walk and enjoy her cake.

Steven was very much in the mood for a treat so he dropped in to get himself a donut. At which point he spot Liz.

"Liz! Hello! Are you feeling any better?"

“Hi Steven,” Liz smiled when she saw Steven, “I am thank you, there’s still some aches and pains but nothing compared to the last couple of weeks,” she added.

He motioned to a chair beside her. "Mind if I join you?"

Liz smiled and motioned the seat next to her, “not at all, please sit,”

"Cheers." Steven took the seat opposite her. "Glad to hear you're feeling better. You look well. You and the little one getting along all right?"

“We are thank you,” Liz smiled, “much better than we were a couple of weeks ago but the worst of it does seem to have passed. How about you and Marc?”

Liz still felt a bit out of the loop with what she had missed while she hadn’t been well.

"Doing all right," Steven said. "Just got back from London yesterday. Marc had business and we brought Llewellyn along so he and I could play tourist for the weekend. Llewellyn liked it, which is nice. Now I'm back on trying to get Marc to socialize."

“How was London?” Liz asked intrigued, “that was nice of Marc to take you and Detective Watts, did anyone tell you what happened over the weekend here?” she paused at that last bit, “and how is that going, trying to get Marc socialising?”

"We've new help on that end," Steven said, figuring he'd go with that bit first since Liz was one of Marc's friends as well. "Wanda, from the Magic Shop? They met that day in the park."

Steven figured Liz would know he meant the day Marc had been having a hard time of it.

"She's from a version of our world. Absolutely lovely," Steven said. "She and I had a chat and she said she's happy to lend a hand. Marc actually enjoys her company - won't admit it of course, but he does - so we've been working on that. I've been giving him reasons to visit her shop, you see."

Steven winked at Liz as a way to cap off showing how clever he was being with this plan.

Liz nodded, understanding what Steven meant about that day.

“I don’t think I’ve met Wanda or been to her shop actually,” Liz admitted as she tried to think back if they’d met, “it must be working though if he keeps going back to visit,” she smiled.

"Fingers crossed," Steven said, doing just that. "It's the one thing that worries me when Llewellyn and I do these holidays. I love them, I do. But I hate to think they encourage Marc believing he doesn't need to be about. Hoping if I give him some nudges it'll at least keep him from backsliding. And Wanda's lovely. One of the kindest people on the island. Right up there with you, I'd say."

Of course Liz was less likely to be on a countdown to ripping apart the multiverse for her own needs. But Steven didn't know that part.

"She knows about Marc and me," Steven added, since that was useful information for Liz to know. "No judgement at all. Which is huge, her coming from a world like ours."

Liz smiled, “hopefully I can meet her, she sounds nice, it must help that there are now more people who know about you and Marc,” she paused, “does it make it easier, knowing someone from your world?” she asked.

"Been a mixed bag," Steven admitted, looking downcast. "Been a couple from worlds like ours, yeah, but then when I try to chat with them turns out there's something different and I end up insulting them. Don't mean to, but - "

Steven shrugged. It wasn't unusual for him to accidentally say the wrong thing. But it hit harder on the island, when it didn't happen as often as it did back home.

"Lucky Wanda's been patient," Steven said. "Think she's from the closest to ours. Timeline and events and things. But if I've said anything wrong to her she's been too kind to say so."

Plus she put up with Marc, who was the walking definition of someone who didn't care if he said the wrong thing.

“Oh I’m sorry it’s not gone well,” Liz said softly, “but at least Wanda seems nice, it must be rather difficult trying to work out where everyone is from in the timeline,”

She knew that a lot had happened in Steven and Marc’s world, especially in regards to recent events from what Layla had told her.

"Good thing most people on the island have been, like you," Steven said. "You being so kind to us made all the difference. I hope you know that. You're a dear friend to us both. I'll always be grateful for that."

Liz did smile at that, “I’m glad I’ve been able to help, both you and Marc are good friends as well, you’ve been so understanding with everything, I’m lucky that I met you both,”

"I've invited you to our Hanukkah party, yeah?" Steven asked. He was pretty sure he had but his memory being what it was he wasn't going to assume. "19th December. We'd love to have you. That's Llewellyn and me. You know Marc and parties."

“You have,” Liz assured him, “thank you, I don’t know how much partying I’ll feel like doing next month but I will try and make it,” she told him.

"Understandable," Steven said. "Of course Prompto's welcome as well. And if either of you can't make it there's no offense taken, I promise. Most important thing right now is taking care of yourself. Can always drop by your shop the day after with some of the food if you like."

Liz smiled, “I’ll definitely let him know,” she assured him, “but you don’t have to go to that extra trouble with the food, thank you for the offer though,”

"All right," Steven said. "Didn't want you feeling you might be left out, is all. Now if your little one shows up without either of you that's right out. She's too young to be going places by herself at night and I won't be having it."

He was kidding, of course. Obviously Liz and the baby were very much a package deal until February.

Liz did giggle at that, “I think if that happens, I think we should all be concerned, she does still have a few months before she’s going to meet us, there’ll be plenty of time later for her to start going to parties,” she smiled fondly, placing a hand on her bump.

"I daresay she's got to be at least six months before any evening parties," Steven said, grinning. "Oh - regardless, we'll have drinks without alcohol. For anyone who's not up for it. I know that's not on when you've got her with you."

Liz smiled, “thank you, it’s definitely one thing I’ve been careful about having, even reducing my caffeine intake,” she paused, glancing down at her half eaten cake, “I made an exception today, I was having a bit of a craving for a mint chocolate cake,” she admitted

"They make good ones here, even the vegan," Steven said. "Can't say I blame you. Is it that you can't have any at all or is a little all right?"

"A little bit is all right," Liz told him, "I've been having the occasional small cappuccino but I haven't been drinking coffee in the same amount, I do like to have one as a treat every now and then,"

"That's good," Steven said. "Is there anything I should keep in mind for the party to make sure you have options? It's no trouble, I promise."

“I’ve got be careful with raw foods mostly, like meat and fish,” she explained, “I do mostly try and eat healthily these days but sometimes I can’t help myself,” she smiled.

"Well no raw meat, I can promise you that," Steven said. "Loads of fried things though. In honor of the holiday. Party's mainly an excuse for the food, really."
