"This week," Summer announced happily, "for those of you who might not be aware or even know anything about it, is Thanksgiving. It's a horrible holiday with its roots in colonialism and the subjugation of native people and the aggressive white-washing of history to fit some bullshit wholesome narrative of goodwill and camaraderie, but it involves food, so we'll still be celebrating here in our class this week!"

“I think we can celebrate the food without the rest of it, can’t we?” Stark asked. “It’s not my holiday so I usually just eat the food if I do anything at all. But I don’t want to celebrate anyone’s being subjugated.” He had some Thoughts on colonialism. It was probably best not to get him started.

"Most people," Summer assured everyone with a nod, "just celebrate the food. Although, admittedly, that's mostly out of ignorance, be it systemic or willful. Anyway! Enough of that. You're here for completely different kinds of atrocities, so let's move right along and introduce you to this week's inspiration!"

Was it with dread or excitement that you watched Summer reach for that cloche by now? She honestly hoped it was a good mixture of both.

"Behold!" she announced, as she revealed this week's monstrosity. "The Thanksgiving cupcake! It has a gooey center!"

“Maybe we shouldn’t celebrate the food either,” Stark said with a long-suffering sigh. “At least not like this.” He had, in fact, been watching Summer with both excitement and dread.

And Summer just beamed all the more proudly after that sigh. "You may open your baskets," she informed everyone, importantly.

Inside your baskets, you will find: a can of creamed corn, a packet of turkey gravy powder, a box of instant mashed potatoes, and a can of cranberry sauce.

Oh, this was going to be a hot mess, gang. Steve was thinking pizza.

Blame the menu at Pizza Planet.

Did you reinvent these classic Thanksgiving staples into something new and interesting? Or were you just lame?

About food, colonialism, possible holiday plans, or whatever strikes your fancy.

Or just ask them "why?" That's always a solid choice.

Stark was there and planning on not using the word "gross" at all today. Not even in reference to any dishes anyone might make.

Oh, come on. You all know perfectly well why, don't even.

Anyway, Summer was definitely there and definitely smug.

"Why are you making that face?"

Stark, you knew better than to ask something like that!

"I don't know," said Summer, who wasn't aware that she really was making a face...or at least not one that was all that different from her usual face for this class when the cupcake inspirations behaved. "I just have a good feeling about these ones."

Interpret that as you will.

"I never have a good feeling about any of them," Stark said.

Especially when Summer had a good feeling!

Summer's smile went almost apologetic. "I guess we'll just have to wait and see," she said. "Honestly, though, as far as potential thematic cupcakes go, at least it's not, like...a green bean casserole cupcake or something."

Although now she was curious...little sprinkling of fried onions over some cream of mushroom icing? Yes.

Stark ~~immediately Googled to see if that was a thing omg~~ sighed, a little.

"Please don't bring green bean cupcakes next time? Green beans do not belong in desserts. Neither do any other sorts of casseroles."

He paused, then frowned. "They don't belong in jello either!"

Just in case anyone was getting ideas.

"What about a sweet potato casserole?" Summer challenged with a lift of her eyebrows. "That could be a cupcake."

Stark opened his mouth to protest, stopped, and frowned. "Fine. But only with marshmallow frosting. But that still shouldn't be in jello!"

"Marshmallow frosting," Summer decided, "sounds sooo good right now. And it would be fine in jello, too. I bet Steeeeeve," nodding helpfully toward Rogers and his...ohgod, was that a pizza? She was so proud of him right now, "would flip his shit over a sweet potato casserole jello mold."

"You can make one for him," Stark suggested. "I'll just eat the extra marshmallows."

They were squishy, just like him.

"Marshmallow frosting does sound good, doesn't it?"

My only objection to that cupcake is that it is clearly a muffin.
