Prompto really didn't want to come into work today; he would have much rather have been at home right now, spending time with his fiancée right now. And he was pretty sure he could have gotten the day off if he had asked, but...well...even if the ring hadn't cost as much as he was worried it might have been (in part thanks to Ignis' bargaining abilities and the fact that the less-expensive but far more heat-resistant tungsten band was a must), it was still a pretty big dip in the finances, so he couldn't really afford to skip work today, especially when he could just make up for the lost time with his fiancée over the weekend.

So he was here, and helping Apu with the winter holiday decorations now that Thanksgiving was over and they could start making the place festive without the fear of Summer's wrath coming down upon their heads.

And most of it looked pretty great, really, and he was even snapping some pictures to add some nice winter decor stock to his portfolio. Holly and wreaths draped from every place that made sense, big snowflakes hung from the ceiling, snowmen and thematic-to-the-aisle trees scattered about everywhere...Prompto was especially pleased to string up lights in various places, but he was a little less confident about Apu's plan to wrap the Squishy machine in gift wrap.

"I mean," he said cautiously, "just make sure you're not, like, covering all the ventilation and things like that...it's machinery. With cooling components. Airflow's kind of important to keep it from overheating...you know...the opposite of what you want it to do..."

But Apu brushed him off and assured him that it would be fine, and Prompto was already sighing and wondering where they kept the service manual on the thing, because he was definitely going to have to try and repair it by the end of the day, wasn't he?

It took Liz a bit longer that morning to get ready and start making lunch and she may have spent a bit of time being distracted by the ring on her finger and still being amazed at everything that had happened in the last 24 hours.

She still turned up at lunchtime carrying the lunch containers and bottles of water, “hi,” she smiled shyly up at her fiancé, she approached the counter, “how has your morning been?”

"Hi."

Prompto's smile was usually pretty bright whenever Liz entered a room, but it was especially so that afternoon, and it seemed to radiate through his entire expression as he leaned forward a little on the counter to grin over at her. Bonus points for the fact that she looked like she was coming in to see him, and not lugging around a suitcase or something like that because she'd suddenly had some kind of realization that she was potentially making some horrible mistake and decided to get out as swiftly as she could while she still could.

"I've been helping Apu get the place all decorated for December all morning," he informed her, taking a second to send his eyes proudly roaming over their handiwork, "and planning escape routes for when half this stuff inevitable comes alive and tries to attack. How 'bout you? Anything exciting?"

Liz smiled as she followed Prompto’s gaze around the store, “and it all looks incredible, I can’t wait to start decorating for Christmas,” she said as she returned her focus to him, “getting the tree up and all the lights and tinsel,” she smiled, “and my morning hasn’t been nearly as exciting, our daughter let me sleep in for a little bit though this morning so that was nice of her,” her smile widened and her hand rested on her bump, showing off her new ring as it did.

"Yeah, well," Prompto had to chuckle a little bit, "better enjoy it while lasts. I'm not so sure there's going to be a whole lot of sleeping in for either of us in the near future."

And since he wasn't about to just let some top tier showing-off multitasking like that pass by unremarked, he added, with subtle nod toward her hand and an absolutely shameless grin.

"Hey," he said, "hold up, what is that? It looks like you've got something on your finger or something..."

“That’s what I thought,” Liz smiled fondly, “especially since she doesn’t normally let me sleep in,” and then her smile widened as Prompto nodded towards her finger, “oh this? “ she said with a giggle as she showed it off, “well my fiancé gave me this ring, asked me to marry him and everything…there were even cats involved,” she added shyly, still getting a thrill at being able to call Prompto her fiancé.

Boy, if the novelty had worn off already, that would have had to be some kind of record or something.

Prompto himself was probably going to be pretty stuck on it right up until the moment when fiancée turned into wife, and then the process was just going to start all over again.

"Your fiancé, huh?" His grin managed to get even bigger as he leaned forward a little more on the counter. "Sounds like a pretty lucky guy."

Liz grinned, her cheeks starting to turn bright red as she gazed happily up at him, “he’s incredible,” she nodded, “he’s the most amazing person I know,” she added.

Well, now it was Prompto's turn to have his face go a little red, that slowly spready splotchy blush that pushed out all those freckles over that unfaltering grin. He was a little tempted to throw out some quip about how Liz must not know that many people, then, if that was the case, but managed to hold it back for something more...productive.

"I'm sure," he said, "he thinks the same thing about you. I mean, why else would he ask you to marry him, unless he did."

With that, his smile sort of softened a little, looking over at Liz and letting that sentiment linger there for a little before he reached out his hand over the counter for his, just sort of enjoying that nice, warm fog he'd existed in since yesterday, still in awe of the fact that he'd actually (finally!) done it, and that she'd actually (miraculously!) said yes.

Liz’s blush deepened at that and her smile widened and she lifted her hand that had been resting on her bump and reached over the counter to meet his.

“I’m very happy that he did, I know I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with him and our family,” her other hand now went to her bump.

At first, the squeeze that Prompto gave Liz's hand once he had it came with a wistful, pleased little sigh, but it was followed by an regretful sort of groan and an apology tilting his smile. "God, I wish I didn't have to be here today," he complained. "Decking the aisles is nice and all, but I'd rather just be home with you right now."

And, sure, sure, they saw each other all the time now, but, for starters, there was still a lot of lost time to make up for, and, now, there was just that new engagement glow to just sort of bask in that he very much wanted to tap into, thank you.

“I know,” Liz sighed as she stared longingly up at Prompto, “at least there’s tonight and the weekend,” she paused snd smiled shyly, “maybe we could have an extra special dessert tonight?” she suggested, because there clearly needed to be more after last might.

"I could definitely go for extra special dessert," Prompto admitted, grinning still, especially considering other interpretations of this concept, even if he was pretty sure Liz meant actual dessert this time. "Did you have anything particular in mind?"

“I’m not entirely sure,”Liz admitted, “I know we we had mint chocolate yesterday, so we shouldn’t really have that two days in a row,” she smiled, “I do think dessert sounds nice though,“ she added.

"Another pie, maybe?" Prompto suggested. "'Tis the season, right? I can swing by the bakery on my way home, maybe switch it up with some apple, or something. Or maybe cherry." He shot her another grin, with another squeeze of her hand before his own loosened a little, shifting to hold hers in a way that showed off the ring enough to get a good view of it. "To match this sweet new bling of yours."

Liz giggled and blushed, “making a pie sounds lovely, I think cherry could be fun,” she grinned as she looked down at her ring, taking a moment to admire, “and maybe,” she added shyly as she looked back up at Prompto, “there could even be a reward for after we make the pie?”

"Well," said Prompto, his grin broadening significantly at that, with a little bit more of a lean forward and a clandestine tilt of his head, catching Liz's gaze intently, "pie itself is a pretty good reward, but you're not going to hear me complain about extra rewards."

Liz leaned in as close as she could manage, “I could even offer a preview now if you’d like?” she grinned, “we don’t have to wait til after the pie?”
