"You know what?" said Summer, starting class with a shrug. "We're going to be up to our eyeballs in thematic bull crap for the next month, so today, we're definitely going off-theme. There really isn't anything to join our two cupcakes of inspiration together except that they're 1) terrible and 2) have sea food in them."

Just what everyone wanted to hear today, right?

It wasn’t what Stark wanted to hear but at least he had some forewarning about these things unlike during his workshop over the summer. “Very terrible,” he agreed. “And very fishy. Fish doesn’t belong in desserts.” And yet here they were.

"But hopefully," said Summer brightly, "fish will belong in whatever you make for us today, using ingredients frooooom…."

She had two cloches, for extra dramatic reveals this time around, and announced:

"Gefilte fish with horseradish cupcakes aaaand……

"jalepeno shrimp popper cupcakes!"

“I’m not even sure what gefilte fish is,” Stark confessed. “But it doesn’t go in dessert.”

"Oh, this could be even better than I thought!" Summer realized, now that she had that little tidbit of information, and she grinned around the room.

"Class, please open your baskets."

In your basket, you will find: gefilte fish (of course!), horseradish, jalapeno jelly, shredded parmesan cheese, and frozen coconut shrimp.

Your time begins….now!

"Why?" Steve said, shuddering as he tasted the gefilte fish.

"Because Summer," Stark said, shooting a fond if slightly horrified glance in his co-teacher's direction. "Have you had that before?"

"No," Steve said, poking it again. "I don't generally go for fish jelly."

And he ate most things!

If Steve didn't want to eat it that didn't bode well.

"I'm a little worried," Stark confessed, glancing over at Summer again, "it's going to make an appearance in jello shots tomorrow."

Steve's face was a picture. "Oh, I hope not."

"Do you think she heard me?"

Of course she had. And even if she hadn't, Summer had to have already had the idea.

"Maybe we'll get lucky?"

Steve was so optimistic.

Hannibal would honestly have preferred to make his own gefilte fish, since you never could be sure what went into fish patties you bought.

But he was absolutely going to work with what he had. Which involved mushing them up and adding the cheese and horseradish to them, to start. They were in serious need of some flavor.

Hopefully you’ve come up with a better use for gefilte fish than whoever invented those cupcakes.

Do you need to apologize for what you’ve created and forced them to consume? This is the place to do that.

Stark would definitely be accepting apologies, especially if anyone decided to make another dessert out of the basket ingredients.

Summer's only regret is that she didn't actually work talking about the upcoming rager more into her presentation of the cupcakes.

"Why fish?" Stark asked. "Especially why that fish?"

It was kind of g...ooey?

"You know that the answer to that question," said Summer, far too smug and proud of herself by half, "is why not?

"Also," she added, a beat later, "we had a ton of it at the store, and I felt inspired."

There was no excuse for the shrimp, though.

"I do know the answer. I still have to ask." That was just how this went.

"Why did you have so much of it at the store? Is this something people eat often? I don't think I've even heard of it before now. I certainly hadn't eaten it before."

NGL, I am hoping for a family seder next year purely so I can make those cupcakes for it.
