The Magpie Emporium; Friday [03/10].

Graham didn't know where the epic music that would occasionally start playing in bursts when he started to do stuff around the store, but honestly? He kind of appreciated how the dramatic swells made his sweeping of the shelves feel more like he was swishing a sword at some swashbuckling pirates, or how short, tense strings made his stacking of some boxes and merchandise seem like a dangerous endeavor that could topple and fall at any moment! And when he went to take a little bit of a rest at the counter, the music went soft and soothing, until he felt struck with an idea for the campaign, and so he leaned in to start scribbling it down and the music intensified to push his inspiration along further.

He did not, however, want to talk about the goofy music that had accompanied him when he foolishly tried to cross the store with a pile of precariously stacked comic books that went fluttering about when he inevitably feel with a sliding trombone sound and scattered both him and the comic books all over the floor.

Hopefully, as you browse, you'll get the sweeping dramatic music that makes you feel like you're a quest, and not the comical, horn-heavy goofy music that'll make you feel like your purchases are really building up to the butt of a joke.

But he had noticed that whenever he went through a door, there was a rather nice little fanfare that he did kind of appreciate.

This week Guillermo had been in a pie making mood so in addition to the containers of empanadas that he had made, plus the extra ones for Graham to enjoy, he had brought with him several different flavours of pies.

He had decided to make his go to chocolate pie, plus there was also a blueberry, banana and caramel.

“Hi I’ve brought over snacks for tonight,” he smiled brightly, happy to be able to spend a bit more time with Graham before their session later tonight.

"Guillermo!" Graham, of course, had been ready for this moment, so he was quick to stop what he'd been working on to rush over. "Hey! Here, let me help! Boy, these look great!"

Graham, you haven't even seen them yet.

“I made pies this week,” Guillermo told him with a smile, “I decided to go with a pie theme and there’s plenty of empanadas as well,” he added, “I made extra containers for you to have,” he said shyly, feeling himself starting to go red.

"I do love a good pie!" Graham noted, in case anyone out there didn't know it yet. "What kinds did you make? Wait! No! Don't tell me! I'll wait and be surprised!"

He took some of the containers to bring over to the counter, with a little bit of jaunty traveling music playing overhead, and he grinned over his shoulder at Guillermo. "So how's your day been? Mostly just baking, or did you get the chance to do something else that's thrilling and/or exciting?"

“Mostly just finishing up my baking,” Guillermo smiled, “I got on a bit of a roll with the pies and couldn’t decide which one to make so I went with all my options instead,” he admitted, “how about you? How has your day been so far?”

Charlie watched through the windwow for a moment, just barely able to hear the music that ushered Graham around. Then she went in and was just a little bit disappointed that there was no music for her. "Good morning, my friend!"

But Charlie could make her own music! Perhaps the unexpected soundtrack merely did not wish to compete with such unparalleled talent!

"Good morning, Charlie!" he greeted her back, bright and eager to see her as ever. "And even better now that you've arrived! How's it going?"

"It's going very well," Charlie said, "And I have an idea. Which you are perfectly able to say no to! I want to make that very clear.""

"I can't imagine saying no to any of your ideas, Charlie," Graham said, with a fond sincerity, but now he was also terribly curious and intrigued. "So try me! Ask away! What've you got on your mind?"

"So there's this big heated pool in the basement of the dorms that no one ever seems to use..." Charlie started. "So... I thought I could maybe teach you to swim there? Nobody's ever around when I've gone and it never makes it onto radio, so it would be private and you wouldn't have to worry about anyone seeing if you're worried about that and.."

"Well..." she ended lamely. "I think it might be fun."

"It's not like it's a big secret that I don't know how to swim," Graham pointed out.

He'd seriously told so many people at this point...

"But you're right," he grinned encouragingly at her, head tilted a little curiously at the way her energy just sort of....uncharacteristically trailed off at the end there, "of course! Swimming lessons? In a secret pool that only we know about? That sounds like a lot of fun! I'd love to do that. Especially with you. When would you want to? This weekend, maybe?"

"Well, yes, but sometimes people don't like other people watching them try to learn something," Charlie pointed out.

She smiled at him. "Yes, a secret pool! We can pretend we're spies and practice our espionage techniques sneaking in!" What? It could be fun to be silly and pretend. Who doesn't love playing at spy stuff?

"I am free all weekend," Charlie said with a small, but nonetheless dramatic, bow. "I serve at your pleasure!"

"Ooooh," said Graham, clearly pleased to see Charlie picking up what he was putting down and running with it, "maybe we could even get extra credit for class!"

He chuckled a little, picturing the look on Mr. Skywalker's face if they did make a bid for extra credit for 'sneaking' into the dormitory pool.

"But tomorrow, maybe?" he offered. "The sooner, the better, right?"

"Tomorrow works," Charlie agreed. "We'll swim in the secret pool!"

By the evening, the music, inexplicably, seemed to have stopped working entirely, and wherever it had been coming from must have decided it was too much trouble to deal with to keep it going, and decided they didn't need music, anyway.

Gather 'round, all ye players, and snack in abundance! And maybe even chat with each other, too, that's definitely a thing.

Libby was there, and she'd brought her scones from baking class yesterday, as well as the usual cut veggies and a little dip, but, though she was trying to put on a smile and not let it be obvious, she was feeling a little subdued. It was kind of hard to get her head into something like a game when you'd seen one of your classmates (she didn't even really know Five! She was pretty sure she could count the times they'd even spoken to each other on one hand and wouldn't even need to use her thumb or pinky!) being brought in with a missing arm just the day before. And she'd swung by the clinic earlier to see how he was doing, only to find out that he wasn't even there anymore, which meant now she was just worried about him, and that was just terribly distracting.

Jo came by with her usual boxes of sweets and chocolates for their session, “Hello,” she smiled as she arrived.

Vi had a cheese platter. She had no idea how she'd ended up with a cheese platter, yet here she was.

Belle was there! There and unaware of any clinic visits yesterday for any grumpy old men.

She hadn't brought snacks with her but she had brought an assortment of teas and electric kettle borrowed from a common room.

Once everyone had gotten their snack and their chatting on, Graham paused for a moment, to see if the music from earlier would help him out by giving him a good sting to grab everyone's attention, but, alas! There was no such audio assistance, and so he cleared his throat a little and announced, "Alright, everyone, let's sa'go."

No, he had no idea why he said it like that.

"Where we last left off," he began, "our fight with the bandits who had waylaid the party was interrupted by the appearance of a myssteeeer~rious woman, but she's only managed to catch some of your attentions: Guillermo from inside the carriage, Esthrana, who definitely notices something a little more than just this plea for help, and Wind, despite her distraction with the bandit captain. And the woman has expressed concern that the bandits were there to finish her off after having attacked them earlier, imploring for assistance. Do any of you three want to jump in with a response?"

"Wind's still focused mainly on the captain," Vi said after a moment. "But she's got time to bow in woman's direction. 'Never fear, fair lady, we've got this.'"
