When Diego came into the station today it was with a box full of every item in the apartment that had peanut butter in it. Not just the jars, but also the protein powder and any candy that had it as well. He dumped the box in the break room.

"Have at it."

He did take a couple Reese's for himself. Hopefully Annie wouldn't be able to smell it through his desk.

Steve ambled in and grinned. "Hey, you're alive!"

"Just barely," Diego said. "Can you believe my family started an apocalypse for a third time?"

"You have got to find a new hobby, brah," Steve said, holding his hand out for a fist bump.

[knife_bender]

"I think we're good for awhile," Diego said with a responding fist bump. "We reset the universe this time so hopefully it's sort of like when you restart your computer when it's acting funky."

"Well, in case I was in the universe that would've been wiped out, I owe you a beer," Steve said.

[knife_bender]

"You could've been for all I know," Diego said with a shrug. "The science of it all was explained to me but you know I don't give a damn about that shit."

"I know you don't," Steve said with a grin. "But yes, beer."

[knife_bender]

"I desperately need beer," he agreed. "Oh, do you like peanut butter? I had to get rid of all of ours so it's in a box in the break room."

"Did you remake the universe and give yourself a peanut allergy, brah?" Steve teased.

[knife_bender]

"Nah, just saying the words 'peanut butter' around Annie these days makes her hurl." Thank god Diego wasn't a sympathy puker.

Steve blinked. "Why? Is she pregnant?"

[knife_bender]

Diego lifted his eyebrows in a way that let Steve know that he nailed it. Look at that fine police work in action.

Intelligence officer, too!

Steve's face lit up. "You've been married for like three weeks, man," he teased. "That was some quick work. Congratulations!"

You were about to get a bro hug, Diego. Brace yourself.

If any occasion called for a bro hug, it was this one. "Thanks, man. We didn't expect it to happen so fast either, but I'm freakin' excited."

Now that he had no superpowers he could work on being super...dad.

"When is she due?" Steve asked, beaming back. "I know, like, nothing about this. My sister showed up with a baby she'd adopted out of the blue. I skipped allll of this."

Mary made some Choices. "She feeling okay other than the peanut butter?"

"We find out all that stuff on Monday. Didn't really have time to do it with the whole apocalypse thing." What with the GYNs in their world being blipped out of existence.

"Aside from the puking she's doing pretty well," he said. "I think she wishes I'd burn my tongue every time I drink non-decaf coffee in front of her though."

Steve winced. "Oh, man, she's off coffee?"

[knife_bender]

"Oh yeah, dude, no caffeine," he said. "She also can't have deli meat for some weird reason."

Which was less sad than the no coffee thing, but still annoying when you wanted a quick lunch.

"Oh, that sucks," Steve said. "You guys still keeping this secret? Danno's had experience keeping on the good side of a pregnant wife. He might have tips."

"We're keeping it on the downlow until she starts showing," Diego replied. "Which, if the island is right, will be in like a week and a half since it's always giving us twins."

Twins plus Annie's tiny frame meant there was no hiding it for long even if they wanted to.

"Well, the island's not always right because it turned me into a short woman," Steve had been so offended, "but I'll keep your news to myself until then." He grinned again. "Now you get another beer. Maybe two more."

"Thanks, man," Diego said. "I got lucky; I was a pretty cute woman. Annie thought so anyway."

"Aww, that's sweet. I had a better rack than Danny and he was sulky about it."

Steve, meanwhile, had behaved completely maturely about being two inches shorter than Danny. Truly.

Diego snorted. "Now that's a weird thing to sulk about. Especially since it's temporary."

"Exactly!" Steve said. "And I went jogging with 'em and let me tell you how much that hurt."

He was the best feminist now. Or something.

"I got warned about that," he said. "So I just didn't run rather than wear a bra."

"I'll remember that for next time," Steve said, nodding. "Probably lay off the jumping jacks, too."
