The Magpie Emporium; Friday [03/24].

There didn't seem to be a whole lot to do around the store that Friday, outside of helping the occasionally wandering customer, and there was only so much dusting a man could do, really, and so Graham decided to just set himself up with a nice game of chess to square off against himself in an epic simulated strategic battle.

He'd spent a lot of time growing up just playing games against himself, so he was really good at playing himself at chess. It was a good challenge, because his opponent seemed to know his every move and could almost effortlessly predict every twist and turn in his strategy! But it was fine, he had a few tricks up his cloak that he was pretty eager to pull out that might really throw him off track!

(He tried to play with Saffron, but she made it abundantly clear that she was going to play by her own rules, which involved just knocking the pieces off the board with a few bats and swipes of her paws and then going back to ignoring Graham for the rest of the day).

Surely, both players of the ongoing chess game could use a little break from the other to revise and reconsider their strategy for a bit!

This week Guillermo had been very inspired by cakes after making a rum and raisin cake for Leroy.

So in addition to the usual containers of empanadas and churros, plus the extras for Graham. He had also made a orange sponge cake , chocolate and a lemon cake.

“Hi,” he smiled brightly when he saw Graham, “I have the snacks for tonight and I also made Leroy his cake,” he added.

"Ooooh!" said Graham, who immediately started looking around of where Leroy might be ~~sulking~~ hiding, if he'd decided to keep an eye on the shop today. "You hear that, Leroy? Guillermo's brought you cake!"

And then, with a hopeful, eager grin sent directly toward the chef, "And hopefully lots of it, too?"

He was hopping out from around the counter, though, to help with all the food, so he'd be likely to find out soon enough!

Guillermo smiled brightly at that as he adjusted his containers slightly for Graham to help take when he got there, “I did, I made him a rum and raisin cake,” he told Graham and then lowered his voice a little, “I also added extra rum, I thought he might like that,”

Because that was definitely what Leroy needed right?

"In my experience," said Graham, in a conspiratorial whisper back to Guillermo and giving him a bit of a wink, "you can never go wrong with more rum when it comes to Fandom squirrels."

And, with that, he took his share of the containers to bring over to the counter, sending a pleased grin over his shoulder back toward Guillermo. "But how's your day been? How's your week? Anything exciting?"

Guillermo smile’s widened as Graham helped take some of the containers, “it hasn’t been to bad, been spending a bit of time playing video games, I should really try and get out a bit more now that the weather’s getting warmer,” he tilted his head a bit as he considered. “How has your week been?”

"Oh, I've been keeping busy with a lot of training with Triumph this week," Graham said with a pleased nod. "I think we're really getting it down on a good time for our Duel of Speed! But, of course, we'll never know for sure until the time comes! Still, after a long week of training, it's going to be nice to just sort of relax and chill and have some fun today, you know?"

“Oh that sounds amazing, you both must be even faster now,” Guillermo smiled, feeling his cheeks redden, “but I am looking forward to our session tonight and getting to spend the evening with everyone,” he added, suddenly a little shy.

Vi had brought a bunch of different jerkies, for some reason she was just feeling like meat. "Hey, Graham."

Graham was definitely eying the selection of jerkies with intrigue, simultaneously hoping there was and wasn't dragon jerky in there, since he now had oddly complicated feelings regarding dragon-flavored anything these days. But his attention shifted from the offerings to Vi with a smile and a wave.

"Hey, Vi! How's it going this week?"

There wasn't anything labelled dragon jerky, but there was a spicy chicken one.

"Pretty good. And you?"

Have no fear, the veggies were here! Libby was sure you were all very excited.

But, since they didn't really make anything in her baking class yesterday, she felt a little odd bringing just veggies now, so she'd found a little time to make some chocolate chip cookies, but they were definitely the recipe from home that included a good way to not only use up all the zucchini growing in their garden but to sneak more veggies into the Littles' diets.

Kurt showed up with the usual containers of goodies in tow. There were still plenty of homemade pretzels and dipping sauces and he had also made up cheesy bread as well to go with all the dipping sauces as well. They needed carbs right? Energy for the exciting gameplay?

Carbs were, obviously, essential!

"Hey, Kurt!" Graham met him with a big smile and a wave as he came in. "How's it going?"

"Been good, how about you? Seems like we hardly run into each other outside of game night we're both so busy" Kurt said as he started laying out the containers on the table.

"Yeah, Triumph and training and classes are really keeping me busy!" Graham had to admit with a little bit of a sheepish laugh. "I should get out more, but, hey, at least we know we always have Fridays to look forward to! It's easily my favorite day of the week!"

"Hello Graham!" Belle called out cheerfully as she walked in to the shop.

"I didn't bring anything to share this week. I hope that's alright."

"Oh, nooooo," said Graham, doing his best attempt to sound shocked and devastated by this news, hands to his face and everything, but the whole thing was pretty spoiled by the big grin he was wearing, too. "Whatever will we do? Surely, we shall now starve from lack of sustenance and snacks! We have so feeeeeew!"

But then he laughed a little, almost a bit sheepishly, as he continued on to say, "That's okay, Belle, I'm just joking." You know, in case she didn't notice; it was a little hard to tell! "You definitely don't have to bring anything unless you want to."

Jo was running a little late this week but she still had her boxes of sweets and chocolates to share, “hi sorry I’m late,” she said apologetically as she arrived.

"You're actually just on time," Graham assured her with a grin, even if she was late. Everyone was already running late; it was, in a way, a running theme!

(And now he wondered if the next gifts he got for the group should all just be a bunch of watches!)

"How's it going, Jo? Good week?"

Jo smiled, relieved that she had not missed the game, “it’s been a rather good week,” she told him, “nothing too exciting, even the library was behaved today,”

"Alright, guys," Graham started this week's session with a little bit of a self-effacing chuckle, because it would seem, through no fault of anyone and thanks to circumstances that felt wildly out of everyone's control, things had been a little slow-going with the campaign these last few weeks. Which was fine! The whole fact that they were able to meet as consistently weekly as they did already skyrocketed them into the DnD Hall of Fame for consistency, really. But he was definitely thinking of ways to maybe move things along a little quicker, "we've all had our chance to respond to the mysteriously appearing woman making an appeal for assistance, so we might as well just shift right back into the battle again, which means we're on Amenken's turn. If I recall correctly, he'd just taken a little damage from a bolt from the bushes before the mysterious woman showed up, and that distracted him pretty effectively from noticing her, although the odds of noticing her now that both Wind and Esthrana have acknowledged her are much higher. What would you like to do?"

"I think Amenken would at least visually acknowledge he had seen the mystery woman and knew she was there. But his attention is still on the bandits and trying to figure out who it was who managed to land a hit on him" Kurt said after a moment's thought.

Graham nodded a little before offering out, "Go ahead and roll a perception check for me, then, to see if you can hone in on where exactly that hit had come from."

Kurt picked up the dice and gave it a roll. "That would be 15 with Amenken's bonus," he said with a nod as he looked over at Graham. "That's not too bad right?"

"Not bad at all!" Graham assured him with a small laugh. "With a fifteen, you can definitely tell that the shot came from a bandit well-hidden...although perhaps not so much anymore, at least not to your keen eyes! In the bush closest to the bandit captain, just a little bit behind her and off to her right a little bit."

"I think Amenken will just keep his eyes on the bandit now that he knows where he is and can keep an eye on him and their leader since they are so close together. Amenken doesn't want to risk another injury so quickly at this time," Kurt reasoned with a slow nod.

"No attack or anything?" Graham checked, with a thoughtful tilt of his head. "Did you want to hold it to use at another time, or anything like that?"

Kurt thought for a moment then nodded. "Aye, hold it to the next round and see what happens between now and then," he said with a small nod.
