Wanda had finally gotten rid of the last rubber chicken, and she was fairly confident that she and Scott wouldn't be arrested for accidental tax evasion after going over the books. For the first day since she came back she actually had little to do at the shop, and could enjoy messing around on her phone for a shift. She had missed that.

Steve had been trying not to hover because he knew he had a tendency to mother-hen people until they kind of wanted to smack him, so he waited for a bit before showing up at the Magic Box that day.

He was carrying corn dogs because his weird holiday-of-the-day calendar app told him it was Eat Something on a Stick day and that was definitely a holiday he could embrace. "Hey!" he said, smiling as he came in. "You look busy."

"Oh, definitely am." With important phone stuff. "...what are you holding?"

Wanda knew what a corn dog was in theory but it wasn't like the national dish of Sokovia or anything.

"Oh," Steve said, holding them up. "These are corndogs. Hot dogs dipped in batters and fried on sticks. They're really good."

Well, to Steve, whose tastebuds were not to be trusted.

"That is...extremely American," she said with a laugh. "But it sounds good. If artery-clogging."

"Oh, definitely," said Steve who never worried about that sort of thing, handing her one. "They're not for every day, but they're fun at fairs or down the shore. They go really well with those giant glasses of lemonade that are mostly ice."

"Noted," Wanda said, even if she felt like she wouldn't be at any fairs anytime soon. "How have you been?"

"Good," Steve said, smiling and taking a bite of his corndog. "I went with Tony to his version of New York. We're working up a prototype for a new uniform for me that isn't quite as red, white, and blue."

He chewed and swallowed. "I still want to help, I just don't want to be recognized."

Wanda nodded. "I can see that. Your usual uniform...is not subtle. At all."

[heroic_jawline]

"Neither was the one Tony was designing," Steve said with a laugh. "You should've seen the deep V on the chest before I convinced him otherwise."

Wanda lifted her eyebrows. "Well your man-cleavage hanging out would distract people for sure."

Steve burst out laughing. "I'm sure it would, right until they got a shot off at me," he said when he could talk again.

"Oh I'm sure you can dodge a couple bullets," Wanda said with a wave of her hand. "So did you pin down a design or is it still in the planning stages?"

"We're still planning," Steve said. "I think I've talked him around to navy blue. It feels weird not to have the star or the shield, though."

[scarlet_chaos]

Wanda had a brief thought to Peggy's version of the shield, but pushed it back down before she could feel too guilty about it.

"Maybe you can have a star hidden somewhere. So just you'd know it was there."

Steve smiled and nodded. "Maybe tone-on-tone in the uniform, so it's not as prominent."

Or just ripping the one he had off like a drama queen.

"And if someone does manage to spot it they get a prize or something." You know, before getting punched in the face.

[heroic_jawline]

"I'll carry something in a pouch," Steve said teasingly.

It would be a small can of whoop-ass. "How have you been?"

[scarlet_chaos]

"Good," she said with a nod. "It's been easier to fit in than I expected."

Annie just coming right on in and settling things between them helped.

"I'm fairly sure Scott and I won't go to jail for tax evasion or anything."

Steve blinked. "Was that a worry you had?"

[scarlet_chaos]

"Scott is one of the smartest people I know," Wanda started. "But I don't think he took any business administration courses in college."

"Ohhhhh," Steve said slowly. "Do you want me to ask if Tony's got a guy to double check?"

Or a Pepper?

"It's fine," Wanda assured him. "We actually don't have that many sales."

Shocking!

"It mostly was just making sure we're not counting the rubber chickens as a write-off."

"Well, you can donate them to my art class and say it's a charitable donation," Steve teased. "Don't let Skywalker have them. We'll see them all summer."
