Community Centre Class | Dinosaurs 101 - Wednesday Morning
“This week we’re going to be covering the Lambeosaurus,” Cutter was back to taking over the classes this week, his hands were still bandaged from the weekend but he was starting to get better use out of them, “the Lambeosaurus was a duck billed dinosaur and a herbivore from the late Cretaceous period, these dinosaurs were particularly known for their hatchet shaped hollow bony crest on top of its skull,”
“The Lambeosaurus was first discovered in 1914 when fossils were first discovered in the Oldman Formation in Alberta, Canada,” he continued, “and larger remains have also recently Baju California, Mexico, it is generally believed that the Lambeosaurus was 9 meters long but the remains found in Mexico have been discovered to have been up to 16.5 metres in length,”
He gave a smile at Connor and nodded at him to continue the lecture.
"Another interesting fact about Lambeosaurus and others in that family of crested dinosaurs is that they could likely walk on both four feet and two feet," Connor said, his voice still a little hoarse from all the coughing and smoke annihilation. "Paleontologists think this because of the way their hip and other skeletal structures were preserved. It is believed Lambeosauraus could run on four legs at a decent speed and then stand on their hind legs and walk when it needed. It is also likely that as an herbivore with a duck like bill, this dino often fed on water plants as well as grasses and leaves of certain plants and that the ability to stand on its back legs gave it an advantage when looking for food."
Connor nodded back to Cutter as he picked up the stack of papers and began distributing them to the class.
“The duck billed family is known as the Hadrosauridae,” Cutter resumed the lecture, “and Lambeosaurinae and Hadrosaurinae are the two major lineages of this family and they are distinguished by the presence or absence of cranial crests and ornamentation and by the shape of the pelvic bones.” he paused for a moment before he finished up the class, “this Friday morning my Zoology class will be having a fossil hunt in serenity cove/the lighthouse area, I would like to invite you to come along as well and see what we can find on our hunt,”
