Steve was on page 42 of a hundred pages of annual ethics training for the state of Hawai'i, which he felt was his own personal circle of hell. It was a beautiful spring day, perfect for running or rock climbing or anything but sitting in a room clicking on answers he knew they wanted to hear even if they weren't entirely what he did in the field.
But if he went through the thing too quickly, it would trigger something that made him have to sit through an in-person class and they'd be able to see his eyerolls about office supplies and proper procedure for police chases (and nothing about, say, what to do if the governor set you up for a murder rap).
He blew out a long, bored breath and kept clicking.
Someone, anyone, give him real work to do.
