Scott had been a part-time Fandom resident for nearly a year. You'd think he'd realize something was up, between his walk over to the shop and the radio -- but the key part of the part-time thing was that he was only here part of the time, and had just arrived from San Francisco and thus had missed all those warnings!

Including, like, using his own eyes, but that was more a Scott problem than a part-time-in-Fandom one.

Anyway, heedless of any and all warnings he should have noticed, Scott was whistling as he swung the door open to the shop -- aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand that whistle was abruptly cut short as something large and hairy launched at him and dealt him a scratch across one arm.

And now there was a wereanteater roaming the street near the Magic Box, and another just inside the door, both of them with their noses eagerly pressed to the ground in search of delicious insects.

Scott would have regrets later. Like, a lot of them.
