"So we have kind of a shitstorm out there," Jesse said conversationally. "Does anyone have any ideas? Because all I've got is 'go out there and beat them up until I find my assistant'."

No, really, she thought as she surveyed those who'd made it down to Town Hall. She was usually the 'beat things up' girl.

He had a lot of anger to let out, okay? It helped him avoid turning it on himself.

"Cool," Jesse said, nodding. "Yeah, I think we'll just lead with that, and we'll figure out something else if it doesn't work."

She really needed to get a head scientist in here.

"Does this...happen often?" Liliana asked. "And have we considered...beating up...the mage that lays these enchantments, or these sorceries, or whatever the hell they are?" She didn't look best pleased, the skirt of her current gown a little tattered, her gold headdress slightly askew. "And, by 'beat up,' I assume you mean handle in a non- lethal manner?"
