The Magpie Emporium; Friday [05/05].

Graham was doing some work today, here and there, but most of his focus had, admittedly, been in not only telling Little Bot and Saffron all about his adventures in the preserve as Graham the WereCapybara, but also acting it out...

...which, in a sense, meant that he had created more work for himself, because acting it out involved a lot of rampaging through the store and bumping into things and knocking them over, but rest assured that he was very careful to only knock over things he knew could take the fall damage and studiously avoided anything particular fragile or breakable, and he very dutifully put everything back in its place and tidied it up again once he was finished.

Saffron, categorically, did not seem to care, but Graham liked to think that the little beeps that Little Bot gave off on occasion were beeps of approval, appreciation, and being impressed, and not just...signaling a low battery, or something like that.

Please to not mind the dramatic recreations occurring in the shop today!

If you missed his performance, don't worry! He'd be happy to recreate it again! He could recreate it all day!

It was Cinco de Mayo and Guillermo had definitely been inspired with his cooking this week, there were the usual several large containers of empanadas and churros but this week he had decided to make beef enchiladas and orejas as well.

“Hi I brought the snacks for tonight,” he said with a grin, as he tried to peer round all those containers he was carrying.

"Zoooounnnnds." Maybe it was just the lack of getting to enjoy Guillermo's amazing cooking last week because he was too busy being chased around the preserve by Triumph, but Graham's attention immediately seemed to latch onto the smell of what he'd brought in today, to the point where his nose was lifted and sniffing so high in appreciation that, if gravity were not a thing, he might have been lifted off the ground and floated over to Guillermo. But, since gravity was a thing, Graham had to just walk, for the time being, grinning as he got close enough to help take some of those containers off Guillermo's hands.

"This all smells amazing, Guillermo!" he said. "I mean, of course it does, you made it, but wow!"

A small pause, as a thought suddenly occurred to him, a thought that was immediately confirmed by a rumbling in his stomach and he chuckled, hand place sheepishly over it.

"Or," he offered, "maybe I'm just kind of hungry, actually."

“Thank you,” Guillermo went slightly red as Graham helped with the containers, he had definitely missed this, “I - I did make an extra couple of containers for you,” he offered shyly, “I thought you might like a mix of everything today, since I couldn’t bring anything last week, with everything that was happening so I made due to make extra this week,” he added.

"I will never say no to extra!" Graham admitted with a faint chuckle, bringing some of the containers over to the counter and eying them with a hungry, eager anticipation to pop some open and start digging in, but he held himself back as he grinned over to Guillermo. "What did you make this time? And do you have time to stick around and have some with me, too?"

Guillermo went bright red at that, “I can definitely stay and have some,” he told Graham with a warm smile, “and I thought since it’s Cinco de Mayo today that I would make some Mexican dishes - I made enchiladas and orejas, as well as the empanadas and churros of course,” he explained.

"Of course," Graham agreed, with a nod and a very fond grin. His fingers tapped a little on the container to one of the lids, trying to decide whether to finally open one, or to continue building the suspense. He did like a good bit of built suspense, so he didn't quite get there yet as he asked, eyes wide and bright because if it meant making delicious Mexican food, it had to be something good.

"What's Cinco de Mayo?"

“It’s a holiday that celebrates Mexican American culture,” Guillermo explained, “it was originally just to celebrate a victory that Mexico had in a war but now it’s also used to celebrate our culture - like food and music,” he added, “I especially like celebrating the food,” he admitted shyly.

"Well," Graham said with a grin, "you're very good at celebrating the food!"

In fact, the sounded like the perfect cue for him to open up a container, finally.

"I really like celebrating the food, too!"

Which felt like an incredible understatement.

Guillermo smiled brightly at that, “and I really enjoy being able to celebrate the food with you,” he added shyly.

"I am here!" Charlie announced dramatically as she swept into the store! "Hello non-capybara Graham!"

"You are here!" Graham confirmed, looking up from where he was setting a rack of comic books back in order after he'd knocked it over in one of his recreations and meeting that dramatic entrance with a very impressed and very pleased grin. "Hello, non--......insert possible animal here Charlie!" His head tilted a little thoughtfully. "Did you change into anything? I kind of missed a whole lot, on account of Triumph chasing me off into the preserve to keep me out of trouble!"

Man, he owed that guy so many jellybeans now!

"Wasn't even here," Charlie said. "Totally missed all the excitement 'cause it was ritual time back home."

She sighed dramatically. "I miss all the good stuff. I wonder what kind of were-creature I would have been?""

Surely, everyone's remembered to bring extra snacks to make up for not having met last week due to the DM being a werebeast, right?

Well, if anything, know that Graham definitely brought some pizza to make up the DM being a werebeast!

"Hey Graham," Kurt said when he got there, containers of food in hand as usual. "See you are back to your non-capybara self!"

"Hey, Kurt!" Graham grinned as he gave Kurt a wave, and then squared his shoulders and pulled himself up importantly, as if showing off the fact that he was back in his usual form. "And I am! That's three different animals I've been by now; I'll be a regular druid in no time, at this point! Although last week was definitely a lot different than the time I was a goose or a bandicoot. Did you end up turning into anything last week? From what the squirrels told me, it sounded like things got pretty wild!"

Yes. Pun very intended!

"Ah no, I managed to avoid the were-creatures. Porting ability comes in handy, though I did have a few close calls. " Kurt went a little shy as he continued. "I spent most of Thursday with Libby at the clinic and then the rest of the time I just kind kept to the dorms mostly."

"Probably pretty smart," said Graham, with an approving nod, and maybe just a bit of a sheepish smile for his own lack of smart moves in this regards. "I got got while me and Triumph were heading back to the stables; thankfully, they just got me, Triumph managed to avoid them, and he did a lot to make sure I stayed out of any further trouble. Really earning that Trusty Steed title! And then some!"

He had to take a moment to smile, proudly and appreciatively, thinking of how lucky he was to have a good steed like Triumph on hand, and then his head tilted curiously at Kurt. "And how was Libby through all of this? I bet it was pretty nice, though, that she had you around to help!"

Kurt wasn't going to divulge the details, it didn't feel right to talk about how Libby had reacted to everything without her being there to speak for herself as well.

"She was really brave. Showed up for her shift at the clinic and stayed the whole time in case someone needed help" Kurt said because that was the truth, and there was no point in mentioning the fear and the clinging hug... though he was remembering that with a small fond smile.

"Well, that doesn't surprise me one bit!" Graham remarked, his own smile pretty fond, too, but clearly, it was nowhere compared to Kurt's! "That sounds just like her! I think anyone who got injured would be lucky to have someone like Libby taking care of them."

He chuckled, though, and made an amendment.

"Or maybe not so lucky, if they're getting injured in the first place! But still luckier than some!"

With a good deal of space removed from the whole trauma of the event (and generally feeling like Graham would appreciate it, because...well, Graham), Libby thought of having her snacks reflect his state during last week's game time, but generally decided against it, and just brought her usual veggie tray with some dip.

Which, she realized, since Triumph did get whatever wasn't eaten of her veggie trays, might have still actually reflected Graham's own tour as a capybara anyway.

Either way, she was there, her snacks were healthy, that was the important thing.

Jo was there and had definitely brought extra boxes of sweets and chocolates to make up for the lack of last weeks snacks, “hello,” she smiled brightly as she arrived.

Boy, was Graham definitely with his people, that so many of them would truly understand the Laws of Making Up For Lost Snacks! He met Jo (and her extra boxes of chocolates!) with a big grin and a wave. "Hey, Jo! Good to see you this week!"

“Thank you,” Jo smiled, “last week was definitely rather unusual but I’m pleased that it seems to have settled down now,” she admitted, “it was rather scary trying to get to the library with everything going on,” she admitted.

"Did you end up turning into anything last week?" Graham wondered. "I turned into a capybara! Like Triumph! Only...not like Triumph, because I was not a very nice capybara, I could tell you that much. I was pretty much, you know, evil Triumph."

Which made him realize, stroking his chin thoughtfully, if he'd had a nice capybara goatee at the time, but, of course, it wasn't like he was running around, looking into mirrors to see just how much of Dark Triumph he had become.

“No, I didn’t turn into anything last week,” Jo told him, wondering what animal she would have turned into, “but that must have been terrifying, I’m glad you’re back to yourself this week,” she added.

Of course Vi had brought extra snacks, which this week translated to an improbable number of charcuterie platters for one person to be carrying. But it wasn't like Vi was going to argue with copious amounts of meat and cheese and bread...

You would definitely not be hearing complaints from Graham about meats and cheese and bread either! But you would have him going a little wide-eyed at how much Vi actually had with her and quickly offering, "Need a hand with all of those, Vi?"

Was he possibly considering slipping a little bit of salami and swiss into his cloak pockets for later if he did help? Mmmaaaaybeeee.

Was Vi going to judge him for that? Nooooope.

"Sure thing, Graham," Vi replied, handing him one of the platters.

Look, sometimes, you just never knew when you might need some pocket meats!

Graham beamed at the chance to help out and stealthily restock his personal snack supply a little to add one of the platters onto the table. "These look great, Vi, thanks! And how are you? Did you manage through everything okay, all that chaos last week?"

"Yeah, we handled things okay," Vi said with a shrug. "Little Bot was a great help there." In case Graham was wondering why he seemed vaguely smug in a cheerful Roomba way this week.

Belle had brought muffins. No she hadn't made them herself but mysteriously appearing food in Fandom was meant to be shared!

"I'm glad you're back to yourself," she told Graham. "But did Triumph enjoy the company?"

"Aww, thanks, Belle!" It would never not feel good, hearing someone was glad to have him be him! "And 'enjoy' might be pretty generous! He did a great job, though, making sure I stayed out of trouble! I think he's pretty glad to have me back to myself, too.

"What about you, though? Did you end up getting turned into anything?"

Belle nodded. "I'm sure he must prefer you as yourself. For offering pets and for being an adventuring companion! I managed to avoid the creatures last week and remained myself."

"Alright, everyone!" Graham chuckled a little as everyone was all snacked up and ready to go. "Time to get back into it. Sorry about last week, by the way, but you know how it goes. Werecapybara things! But, anyway, where we last left off, you guys were finding a safe spot to rest up for the evening after that battle with the bandits. Safe location secured, do we have any volunteers for who's going to be taking a first watch? Or are you throwing caution to the wind and not setting one?"

"Esthrana can take the first watch," Libby said, after a moment, when she realized that it didn't look like anyone else was going to be jumping on it, and she sent an uncertain smile around the table, "if no one else is going to. She doesn't mind."

"Amenken would, but... he's still a bit worse for wear after everything I think," Kurt said with a shy smile. "He'd be willing to keep watch after Esthrana though."

"Get that rest in while you can!" said Graham, approvingly, and maybe, if he had to be honest, a little disappointed that Kurt hadn't actually been about to say Amenken would like to keep watch WITH Esthrana, but oh, well, maybe he'd have to work in something to help nudge that along another way. "Perfect, then! Esthrana has first watch, followed by Amenken....anyone for a third?"
