Watts was spending most of his time today looking up ideas for things to flavour biscotti with. Not all, but most.

He did take the occasional break to try and catch his hat on his head after throwing it up in the air. An act which the Troopers promptly tried to emulate, only they had helmets, not hats made of felted wool, and thus that was likely to end in a concussion.

Sometime in the afternoon a text came.

Hello, you.

The ping of an incoming text message was enough to distract Watts from his current attempt to catch his hat, sending said hat tumbling to the floor.

Helo, you he typed back, smiling as he did so.

There was a delay in replying. Not so long that it might have given the impression Llewellyn's message hadn't gone through at all. But just long enough that it made sense when Steven appeared in the doorway of Llewellyn's office right after a reply should have appeared.

Steven was holding a cardboard drinks tray with two coffees in one hand and a paper bag in the other. "Good, because I already got you one. Hello, you."

“Hello, you,” Watts beamed, delighted. Yes, the question in text had implied that Steven would be willing to stop by with that offered coffee, so he’d sort of been expecting the visit but expected or not, Steven’s presence was a delight.

“I was going to say, you arrived awfully fast.” Note the lack of complaining.

"I was being sneaky," Steven said, grinning proudly at himself for managing to accomplish it. He used his foot to close the office door behind him. "I got muffins as well, if that's all right?"

“I could use a snack,” Watts said with a nod. Likely an unsurprising answer, he could nearly always use a snack. But then, Steven knew his position on surprises in general, which is why he suspected he’d gotten the text about coffee even as Steven had anticipated his answer.

Steven? Remember that his beau disliked surprises? It was more likely than you'd think!

Or possibly exactly as likely, depending on one's thoughts about the topic.

Steven put the coffees and the bag on Llewellyn's desk. He started to unpack them, then stopped himself. "Wait - can I greet you properly?"

The door was closed after all.

“Please do,” Watts said, gesturing for Steven to come closer and offer said proper greeting.

Steven did just that, giving Llewellyn a proper kiss in order to greet him. "There. Better."

“Mm, my day certainly is,” Watts agreed.

Steven gave Llewellyn another quick kiss for that before resuming unpacking the food. "Two mochas and two muffins. One blueberry, one apple cinnamon."

Steven didn't wait for Llewellyn to state a preference, instead cutting both muffins in half for sharing.

Again with how well Steven clearly knew Watts, as sharing that way was his preference.

“Perfect,” Watts said. “And- on that topic. I’ve been looking up things one might mix in to biscotti dough.”

It was, of course, entirely possible that if there was any difference in sizes, the larger of the two halves went to Llewellyn.

"Oh?" Steven asked. "Anything sound good?"

Strange how the opposite seemed to happen when it was Watts in charge of dividing anything into portions…

“Just about everything,” Watts admitted. “Chocolate chips, almonds, dried berries or fruits.”

Steven thought about it. "I like the idea of chocolate. It could melt nicely when we dunk them."

“Chocolate and coffee do go well together,” Watts agreed, taking a sip from his mocha.

“So, chocolate for certain and perhaps something else, as the recipe calls for being split into two ‘loaves’ for the first round of baking. What do you think of orange?”

"Don't think I've had orange biscotti before," Steven said. "Wouldn't mind giving it a go."

Especially since he knew how much Llewellyn liked oranges.

“Very well then,” Watts said, emphasizing his statement with a bite of one of his muffin pieces. “It is decided.”

"I appreciate you looking into it," Steven said. "The recipes and all. Kind of you to do the work there."

“I enjoy it,” Watts admitted. “Which is not the sort of thing I ever thought I would say, but,” he smiled, “a running theme as of late has been unexpected joys.” The biggest of which was sitting right here in this office with him.

"Like learning to cook," Steven said, just to throw his own into the list. Though he would agree the person sitting with him was the largest joy of all. "And having someone to learn it with."

“Agreed,” Watts said. “The company is especially pleasurable.”

"Even when I pop by like this?" Steven asked. "I was running errands. Thought I'd come see you long as I was out and about."
