Vi figured Steph would want to save the bulk of decorating the store until June proper, but she figured she might as well get a start on it now, especially since she'd promised to help and all.

Which was why she was currently hauling out all the boxes of rainbow (and other flag) coloured pine cones that she'd stashed away last year out of storage.

There were...rather a lot of them. Especially considering she hadn't really kept that many.

Was Steph going to succeed at sneaking up behind her for a hug while she was occupied? That remained to be seen, but at the moment she thought she would.

If Steph actually succeeded at that, there was a non-zero chance it would end badly for both of them, but instead Vi leaned back into the hug. "Careful, who knows what'll happen if my girlfriend catches you."

Steph laughed and rested her cheek against Vi's back. "I think she just caught you, actually."

Vi grinned and made a show of running her hand along Steph's arm. "No, can't be. See, she's got these noodle arms, and yours definitely aren't. "

Steph could not help the loud sigh she let out; it was just reflex by now.

"Oh, yeah? They're not?"

Vi bit her lip to keep from laughing, still running her hand along Steph's arm. "No, these are real nice."

"Huh. Well, glad you appreciate them." Steph grinned against Vi's shirt. "Guess that has something to do with my girlfriend teaching me how to throw a proper punch."

"Could be," Vi agreed thoughtfully. "Sounds like she's pretty lucky to have you."

"That's what she tells me, but I could say the same about her." Steph leaned around so she could give Vi a mischievous smile. "Especially when she's helping me get the store all ready for Pride before I even have to ask."

Vi grinned back. "I mean, I heard she did promise to help with all that," she said. "Though now that you've caught me I guess I'll have to do instead."

"If you don't mind," Steph replied. "I'd never turn down help from you, especially when it comes to carrying the heavy boxes."

"The truth comes out," Vi said, still grinning. "You only want me for my muscles."

"They are very nice muscles," Steph pointed out. "Could you blame me if that was the case?"

Vi pretended to think about it. "Not really."

[drumsticksandd20s]

"I mean, it's not the case, but thank you," Steph said cheerfully, and let go of Vi so she could start opening up one of the boxes. "God, I can't believe there were so many of these things last year."

"Especially since I know we got rid of more than we kept," Vi said, coming over to join her. "There are only the best looking ones."

"I appreciate them coming pre-decorated and saving me a whole lot of time," Steph remarked, tossing a couple of lesbian flag pine cones to Vi. "Even if we were practically swimming in them for a while."

Vi caught the cones and started tossing them from hand to hand. "I definitely haven't been pining for these."

So close and yet so far.

"Oh god," Steph groaned, putting a hand to her forehead like she was about to faint. She feigned a stumble, popped back upright, and mimed a rimshot complete with ba-dum-tssh sounds. "Damn you, that was a good one."

It was right there, you two.

"I mean it's right there in the name."

It was like they were deliberately missing it.

"This still," Steph said, reaching out to curl an arm around Vi's waist, "explains nothing of why we had a fucking infestation of them."

Evidently they'd just decided on a subconscious level to be willfully obtuse about it.

Which to be fair, was what started the problem in the first place. So points for consistency.

Vi slung her arm around Steph's shoulders. "Guess we'll never find out."

Hey, they were just committing to the bit!

"Probably not that deep anyway," Steph decided. "Hi. Get anything good in pizza class today?"

"Of course," Vi said, reluctantly disentangling herself to fetch the container. "We didn't cook any today, but Raiden brings more than enough to keep some for you."

"Aw, you're so good to me." Steph watched her affectionately as she stacked a small pyramid of pine cones next to the register. "I wasn't expecting you to save me some, you know, but I'm glad you did."
