The Devil's Nest, Wednesday Evening

Curiously enough, the tiki bar was still there - but most of the sand was not. When Octavia made the mistake of asking about it, Tiny answered something vague about 'uncomfortable places' that didn't particularly make her feel like continuing that line of questioning.

Anyway, it wasn't too many moments later that she was looking at something or other on her phone and the date happened to catch her eye. June 6th. That was -- that was a date that was several days after June 2nd.

"... Shit."

Guess it was time to text Lucifer that they'd somehow missed Duke's birthday, again.

... Bloody personal drama kept distracting them from Duke's birthday and Lucifer was incensed about it, yes. He took off for the club as soon as he received her text.

"We have to fix this," he announced as he barged in.

You know, Octavia wasn't even surprised by that. At least not after she saw him leave her on read.

"I don't think we can fix it," she replied. "I think we can just try and make up for it."

Lucifer ignored that as he stomped over towards her. "Something maritime? No, I think we've exhausted that well. Can we travel back in time and take him to a classic The Cure concert? Perhaps we should buy the Cure. All of New Wave! ... no, they're likely to get odd and principled about that. Another island? Bigger island? No--"

... Octavia was not surprised by this, either.

"Okay, can you take a breath, maybe?"

Lucifer paused.

"... I'm just spitballing ideas," he said. "Feel free to contribute your own."

"I already have a feeling that whatever I say is not gonna be elaborate enough for you."

Mostly she'd just wanted to slow the runaway train down a little before he decided to buy another castle or something.

"I don't know," Lucifer admitted. "Perhaps less is more this time?"

He did sound a bit unsure about that. But then this was Lucifer, who didn't even understand when 'more' became 'too much'.

"It doesn't have to be huge," Octavia said. "Like... Not the best show a band played, but just going to see some band he likes?"

"...That does sound a bit underwhelming."

Lucifer.

"Lucifer."

"Sorry, sorry," Lucifer said, holding up his hands placatingly. "Right. I suppose we could look into that."

"Or anything else that's not... You trying to buy up a quarter of the planet."

[my_own_advocate]

"I am trying not to escalate," Lucifer offered. "I think I may have even told Duke that."

"So let's try for something smaller, hm?"

A little bit, anyway. Octavia did not expect - or intend - to try and drag him down to her own 'small otter figurines' level of small.

"Something he'll like. And something that's special."

"A nice trip somewhere I haven't bought?" Lucifer tried.

Octavia gave a tiny nod. "Maybe somewhere he hasn't been before?"

A beat.

"That we know of. Or that you know of. I'm not great with countries and places."

[my_own_advocate]

"That might be difficult, considering," Lucifer said, tilting his head. "We'd be talking Antartica. Or perhaps something landlocked, like Mongolia... that may not be his thing. Hm."

"... There have to be more options than those."

The Earth was so big, and hadn't been torched to shit yet! Duke couldn't have gotten around that much, could he?

"He's been to... a great many places," Lucifer said delicately. "Though I suppose he might enjoy some part of Ireland he hasn't specifically seen yet..."

"Well, even if it's a place he's been, it might not be somewhere he's been a lot of times?" Octavia tried, in return. "And I'm sure we could find something he hasn't done there before, too."

Lucifer snorted. "Something that isn't also a terrible idea? Unlikely."

Did you want Octavia's faintly disappointed face, Lucifer? Because this was how you got it.

"It was just a thought," she muttered.

Oh, no. Lucifer sighed. "... Unless you'd like to do some googling."

[okteiviakom]

"No, it's fine," Octavia said (still in a half-mutter, yeah), grabbing herself a glass to fill with water. "It's probably best if you handle all the big stuff, anyway. I'll just try and find something... small to go with it."

Now Lucifer looked-- well, annoyed. "I'm obviously not going to do that now, darling," he said.
