The Magpie Emporium; Friday [06/30].

As with most break weeks, there was at least one player who wasn't around for the gaming session that Friday, so Graham decided to call it off that Friday until they could all be there for it. Which wasn't to say he wouldn't welcome if anyone still showed up and they could poke around at some other things or do some kind of one-shot, but sometimes, it was just nice to have a break and recharge for the next session.

And for him to get some new idea, too, flipping through some source books and maybe even some books for other systems, just to try to mix it up a little, which meant that, on occasion, he'd find something really interesting and oooh and ahhhh about it and then try to tell Saffron all about it, but of course, Saffron just seemed to be on some plane of existence where Graham didn't exist at all, so his excited ramblings and musings went entirely unnoticed.

Which was fine! He'd always been pretty used to just talking to anyone who'd listen, even if that anyone was simply just himself.

"I know there isn't a game tonight," Belle said as she walked in. "But I thought I might come to see you anyway, Graham."

"Belle!" Graham looked up from his stack of guidebooks eagerly to see who had come in, and waved with a pleased smile at the unexpected result. "Hi! Yeah, come on in! No game doesn't have to mean no visits! How are you? Are you having a good Friday so far?"

"A quiet Friday," Belle said. "But a pleasant one that seems likely to improve now. How are you? Have you enjoyed the week without classes?"

"Some of it!" Graham admitted, with a bit of a sheepish chuckle. "I'm glad we still had the Wednesday Shenanigans, I kind of miss it when we don't have classes! But we're back to it again next week, right? So I'm pretty excited, I think it's going to be another fun round! What are taking this time, do you know yet?"

"I haven't quite made up my mind," Belle admitted. "Are you all signed up? I hope we'll end up in some of the same classes again. I always enjoy when we do!"

"I'm definitely going to be Swashing my Buckles this time around!" Graham reported excitedly. "And you're going to do the Floor is Lava--I'm sorry. 2 Lava 2 Floor!-- again, aren't you? That one was so much fun last time! And I'm really hoping to win one this time, too! And, of course, the Teamwork one! Which isn't as much as I usually take....maybe I should take the Laziness one, too!"

"Swashing Buckles does have a lovely ring to it and I did enjoy the lava adventures we've had so far. Both very good suggestions. I'm not sure I can picture you being lazy though..."

"Neither can I," Graham admitted, with a chuckle and an almost sheepish smile. "Which just means all the more reason I'd need to take a class on it!"

"It is always good to learn a new skill," Belle said, smiling. "Perhaps even if that skill is laziness. It ought to be fun to learn, in any case!"

"It should!" Graham agreed. "And I've taken Mr. Kyoraku's," taking extra care to get that pronunciation right, "classes about napping before, last summer. Zounds, was I terrible at it! I don't think I slept a single wink the whole time! But you should have seen Gray in that class, oh, man, he was amazing at it! Truly an inspiration!"

"I should hope Gray would be good at it! He probably couldn't teach it without falling asleep but I'm certain he is the foremost expert here."

"I know it's not something he can always control," Graham said, "but it would be like learning from the master, regardless! I'm always impressed by it, anyway. Nothing like someone who really commits when they do something, you know?"

"It is impressive, how he can sleep through anything, isn't it?" Belle mused. "I'm sure it could be quite useful in certain circumstances. I'm not sure which circumstances."

"Sleeping contests," Graham said, immediately and with awed confidence, as of those were things that happened on a regular basis. "Or? When you're in a bind and have to pretend that you're dead! Although....that actually wouldn't work, if they checked your breathing. Or if you're a snorer..."

"Are sleeping contests something you might have to compete in as part of a knighthood trial?" Belle asked.

Graham had to laugh at the idea. "I think," he chuckled, "it would be the opposite of a sleeping contest, in that case. A vigilance contest! Knighthood isn't all adventures and quests, after all. Some of it is probably pretty boring, standing guard for hours on end with nothing much happening, so the real test would be for how long you can withstand it without falling asleep! May the last knight hopeful standing win! If that were the case, I think I've got pretty good odds, considering I couldn't even nap even in a class about napping!"
