Luke's Diner; Tuesday [07/04].

The fact that the diner was still celebrating both Canada Day and Fourth of July in its décor at the diner was, naturally, a detail that was completely and utterly lost on Ignis, but he did realize that today was an American holiday, and, with that, when he came in that morning to get himself situated and consider his recipehs for the day, he asked the staff which foods were considered traditional for the holiday so that he could take some of his inspiration from there.

And, after some consideration and thought and a snap of his fingers as everything fell into place, he got to work.

Marc swung by around lunchtime. He took a look at the specials board and then frowned. "Please tell me the burger isn't blue."

There was...a pause, as Marc's greeting hit Ignis as he was reaching for the coffee pot. And then Ignis resumed pouring Marc a mug of it before giving his response.

"I can neither confirm nor deny the color of the burger itself," he informed him astutely before setting the mug down at his best guess to where Marc was likely to sit. "And how you like it cooked is entirely up to you. But I will say that the blue is intended to only refer to one of the kinds of cheese used."

Marc came over for the coffee and a seat to sit in while he drank it. "Got it. At least it's not meat from a blue animal or some shit."

That way lied the risk of eating Muppets, and nobody wanted that.

"How's it going?"

"As I said," Ignis' tiny smile was half-strained, half-indulgant, "I cannot personally guarantee to you that it did not. All cattle is grey in the dark.

"And it's going well." Ignis nodded slightly. "Though I'm curious about what in particular about blue animals you would find so offensive to your palette, but I've hardly been one to take to culinary restrictions in the first place. And how are you? What can we get for you today that isn't...presumably...blue?"

Marc was going to point out that you didn't need to see a cow to learn about cows and know that cows as a concept weren't blue. But then he remembered that Ignis wasn't from Earth. Maybe cows came in every color from blue to purple polka dots there. Weirder things had happened.

To that end, "It's not that it offends, it's that it wouldn't be meat from Earth, which is what I'm I'm in the mood for. Could I get the burger without the cheese?"

Local venison would come from teal deer, as well, Marc. And Ignis had seen those, once upon a time, so that argument seemed a bit...flimsy, besides.

For now, though, he nodded. "Easy enough. I'll certainly double-check with the kitchen staff that the meat is, in fact, not blue, as well, and we'll just hope they're feeling professional today. Anything else?"

Deer, which were by definition not cows no matter what color they were.

Marc frowned. "Do they often put stuff in the food that's not supposed to be there?"

"Certainly not that I've seen," said Ignis, who very much couldn't help himself with that one.

"I see what you did there," Marc replied in kind.

[chef_chocobro]

"Well," Ignis coolly remarked, "thank goodness someone can. Just the burger, then?"

"Just the burger," Marc replied.

"Then I shall be right back with just that," said Ignis, and, sure enough, true to his word, after ducking into the kitchen for a short while, he returned with Marc's burger.

"And do let me know," he added, "if therr's anything else you need, or if you find it still too blue for your tastes."

Thankfully, though, not even the plate was blue.

“Afternoon, Mr. Scientia,” Watts greeted, as he made his way to his usual spot.

"Detective Watts," Ignis greeted back, giving him a nod once he'd reached said usual spot, "good afternoon. And how are we doing today?"

Said spot was, naturally, on the 'Canadian' side of the diner, not that Ignis could see that.

"No complaints as of yet," Watts said. "Yourself?"

Perhaps he could merely sense it, some sort of faintly stronger waft of maple syrup in the air? And the otherside countered with a suggestion of Eau du FREEDOM?

"Quite the same, really," he admitted. "A fairly quiet weekend, for which I'm glad, mostly just hashing out lesson plans with Gladio and Prompto. What sounds good today?"

“The potato salad sounds intriguing,” Watts decided. “And a turnover as well.”

"Both utilizing vegan-friendly recipes, as well," Ignis noted,"so well-chosen. And what shall bear the privilege of washing it all down this week?"

At this point he more or less assumed that one of the dishes would be vegan, honestly. And it being the burger seemed unlikely. The dessert was of course less of a certainty, but also not something he was concerned about compared to the presence or absence of meat in a dish.

“Sarsaparilla today, thanks.”

"And so sarsaparilla wins it again for this round," Ignis noted with amusement, before going to get the drink. "And I'll be back in a moment with the food."

And it truly was a moment, since neither required mich prep work.

"Any particular plans for the holiday?" he asked, once the food was brought out and settle in what was hopefully a good close proximity to Watts on the table.

“Have you a tally going?” Watts had to wonder now. “And no; this is not my nation of birth, so I have no sentimental attachment to the day. I am considering dropping in on Ms. Ingram’s usual gathering, however, so if she is celebrating then I suppose I shall be too.” Somehow he doubted it, considering her guest list was exclusively non-American.

"Watts," Marc said, by way of greeting.

“Marc,” Watts replied in kind. “How are you?” Unchanged, he suspected, since coffee yesterday, but one never knew.

"All right," Marc said. "You?"

"Well, my curiosity regarding whether there would be a theme today has been assuaged," he said with a slight shrug. "So, well enough."

"Don't ask about the color of the meat," Marc said. "Apparently it's a real sensitive subject."

“Oh dear,” Watts said, shaking his head. “Well. I suppose it’s a good thing I’m not inclined to eat it, regardless of colour.”

"How you doing otherwise?" Marc asked, since he was more than happy to change the topic.

[pocketpretzels]

“Well enough,” he shrugged. “Though- in regards to your invitation yesterday, I feel the… raucousness… of a 4th of July celebration may be- a bit much.”

Marc nodded since that made sense. "It'd be a big crowd too. DC gets a lot of people for it. You'll probably be able to see some fireworks here if you're into that."

“And likely wouldn’t be terribly loud from this distance,” Watts mused.

"Unless somebody sets some off on the island," Marc said, just so Watts had fair warning for any possible surprises.
