The Magpie Emporium; Friday [08/04].

Graham knew it was probably a losing battle, but he came into the store that day determined to finally break through whatever it was between himself and Saffron by engaging her in some fun card games. He tried a few of them...euchre, rummy, Tanalore Hold 'Em, old maid. He thought he almost managed to get her interested in the building of some houses of cards, but it turns out that she just wanted to knock them down as soon as he got them constructed, and he was pretty sure Go Fish was going to be a big hit, all things considered, but he was pretty sure that the fact that it involved no actual fish was a big mark against him in that regard.

"In my defense," he appealed to her as she went to go ignore him in favor of grooming her paws, "it's literally called Go Fish, not We Already Have Fish At Home."

So it looks like it was just solitaire for Graham today after all.

Or, you know, he could actually do some work, too.

Especially if Graham's current round of solitaire is looking like it's getting pretty intense!

Suggestions for good cat card games are very welcome!

Even if probably just as ineffective as all the other ones.

Guillermo had been inspired to try some caramel themed pastries this week and so he had decided to make salted caramel chocolate crostini and mini caramel apple pastries in addition to his containers of churros and empanadas.

“Hi I have the snacks for tonight,” he smiled brightly as he arrived carrying all of his containers.

"Ooooh, snack delivery time!" said Graham, more than happy to be distracted from his solitary card games when there were snacks and maybe someone more willing to play Go Fish with him than his previous company. He chuckled a little as he bounced over, already prepared to help take some of those containers off Guillermo's hands. "My favorite! What've we got today, Guillermo?"

"I thought I'd try making some caramel pastry recipes today," Guillermo told him with a smile, "we have chocolate caramel crostini and we also have mini caramel apple pastries, I haven't really worked with a lot of caramel before, only when I've made caramel pie but I thought it would be fun to try out these new recipes today,"

"Zounds," Graham's eyes lit up with the excitement of the treats that were awaiting him throughout the day...even if it would be difficult to make sure there were some leftover for the game session tonight! "Mini caramel apple pastries? Those sound amazing! You know, I've always been more of a choco-chip kind of guy, myself, but I do love a good caramel and apple combo! Those are going to be great, Guillermo, thank you!"

Guillermo smiled shyly at that, “you’re welcome,” he said, “if you would like to try some now you can, I made sure there were plenty of extras,” he told him with a grin.

"You know the rules!" said Graham, grinning broadly back, "if I have some now, you have to have some with me! Deal?"

“I think I can definitely get behind those rules,” Guillermo said, his smile widening, “you have a deal,”

"And," Graham added, setting some containers down on the counter and swinging around to the other side before doing a little eenie, meenie, miney, moe to pick one out to see what was inside, "you have to tell me about your day. I wanna hear aaaalllll about it!"

Guillermo smiled happily as he went to join Graham by the counter, "my day hasn't been too bad, I got to spend the morning trying out new recipes," he told Graham, "how about you? How has your morning been in the store?"

"Not bad!" Graham said, beaming as his guess was correct and he'd opened the container to reveal that caramel apple goodness. "I've been trying to get Saffron to play some card games with me, but she didn't seem very interested, so I moved onto solitaire. You wouldn't want to play some cards with me, would you? And maybe Saffron will see us having all this fun, and she'll change her mind!"

"I would love to play card games with you," Guillermo's smile widened at that and then there was a pause, "I mean I'm not very good at them though," he admitted shyly.

At some point, a group of gremlins made their way over there with some Cards Against Humanity, which seems...dangerous.

And possibly not at all what they thought the game would be.

Come bring your snacks, your dice, your witty banter and your catching up with friends!

Libby had been feeling a little under the weather yesterday, which meant staying home from the clinic and having her lessons in health care taking a much more personal approach. But, thankfully, due to plenty of rest and fluid and some good old chicken soup, she was back enough to feel confident that she wouldn't be spreading any of her cold germs to her fellow role-players.

She was, however, hoping she would spread some healthy eating habits with her usual veggie tray, though!

Usually, when it was time to get started, everyone was ~~more or less and theoretically~~ present and accounted for, but as the usual start time started to creep further and further behind them, Graham had to frown a little at a very distinct absence in their group. "Did Jo say anything to anyone about not being able to make it tonight?" he wondered. "Or maybe she's just running late?"

He had reservations about starting without her, because he knew he'd feel pretty bad if he walked in on a game blazing forward without him in the event that he got caught up or distracted or just generally running late, but it was starting to get a bit later than he'd want to wait...

"She never said anything to me the other day when I saw her to say she wasn't coming tonight," Guillermo spoke up a little worried, "actually I don't think I've seen her at all today," he realised.
