There had been a delivery of a bunch of road salt to the station today. Which seemed kind of cruel to do, considering how hot it was. But, lifting the bags and putting them in storage until winter seemed like a good work out so Buck couldn't really complain.

Did Buck want a teasing wolf whistle? Because that was what he was getting since the rest of their old station would have done it and Eddie was just duty bound to uphold the tradition.

Buck laughed, though it sounded a little strained since he was being a dumbass and trying to carry several bags of salt at a time. "I know, I'm hot. Are you gonna help or what?"

"You seem like you're doing just fine," Eddie replied, but was already moving to help him before he injured himself.

Or dropped one.

Oh man there'd be salt everywhere if he dropped one.

"It's a little early to prep for winter, right?" Buck asked. "And it barely snowed last year."

"Way too early," Eddie agreed. "Does this mean they're expecting bad weather?"

Please don't make these California boys deal with it. Please? They might freeze.

"Can they even tell this far ahead?" he asked.

Eddie shrugged under a bag of salt. "There's that Almanac thing."

That he mostly knew about as a thing that existed.

"What, the thing where farmers predict the weather?" Not how it worked, Buck. "That has to be random guessing."

"You think?" This was a Bobby question. Straight up with that Midwestern knowledge.

"Well weather people have to go to college and do science-y shit, right?" At least he vaguely caught that during his time with Taylor. "So unless the farmers who do the almanac also have a Masters..."

Which was possible! People contained multitudes.

"But maybe it's science without the degree," Eddie replied. "It's not like it'd still be around if they were wrong a lot."

Buck grunted as he put down another bag of salt to the pile. "I don't trust 'em."

Eddie was showing off a little with the two bags now.

"Based on?"

[firehousehimbo]

"Gut instinct." Total bullshit. "Don't pull a muscle, old man."

[justalittlerepressed]

"I'm not old," Eddie grumbled. Ignore the strained noise as he put those bags away. "Gut instinct is the same as going with that Farmer's Almanac, you know."

"Yeah but I don't publish my gut instincts for the world to see." Less embarrassing that way.

"But you're still willing to go with it." Duh, Edmundo. It was Buck.

"Don't you go with yours?" Buck asked. Yeah, didn't everybody just do what their gut told them without thinking through the consequences?

This is how you end up suing your entire department.

"Not all of the time."

Constantly. Because, you know, trauma.

Buck snorted. "You're such a liar."

"I am not," Eddie said, wiping a salt dusted hand off on Buck's shirt.

"Hey! See, gut instinct right there!" Buck said. "Thank you for proving my point."

"How was that gut instinct?"

Because you super didn't need to do it, Eddie.

"...I don't know. But it is." So there. "You could have not touched me and then live without the consequences of me possibly filling your underwear drawer with some of this salt."

"You'll get some on yours then." Mutually assured destruct.

"But you started it." God, Eddie! It's like you didn't grow up with a sibling or something.

Or he did and therefore had to retaliate like this was super important!

"And I do the laundry, so getting dust on your shirt isn't even a big deal for you."

"It just makes sense to do the laundry together we're the same size." Definitely sounded like he had that argument ready for some odd reason.

"I'm not complaining about the laundry," Eddie insisted. "I mean, I think you've stolen some of my socks. But that's fine."

"How can you even tell?" he asked.

[justalittlerepressed]

Eddie looked maaaaybe a little embarrassed there. "Chris got them for me. They had little covert dinosaurs on them."

Now Buck was going to scour his sock drawer for the cool dinosaurs socks, wasn't he?

Um, duh, of course he was.

"What? I could've been wearing cool dinosaur socks this whole time?!"

"First, they're mine," Eddie replied. "And I thought that's why you took them. If you don't have them, did the dryer eat them?"

Probably literally here.

"I mean in this town the dryer might have literally eaten them," Buck pointed out. "And we should just let it take them as a sacrifice before it takes one of our hands."

Eddie's hand. Because he did the laundry.

"...Buck, is that an actual concern I should have?"

BECAUSE APPARENTLY THERE WAS A KIDNAPPER HOUSE HERE TOO.

"I wouldn't rule the possibility out." Hell, if they had been in LA he wouldn't have ruled it out. They saw some weird shit back there.

Eddie frowned at him for a moment before deciding, "We're getting a new dryer."
