Shit was getting weird in town in a way Nancy -- well, she didn't exactly recognize a lot of these places (except, of course, Waffle House), but the vibe of all of this was inescapable and not like, totally unfamiliar.
"Okay," she said to the woman on the phone, pen poised. "I'm ready. Where did you last see your little boy."
Pause, scribble scribble.
"Do you remember which coffee shop?"
A bit more rambling on the other end of the phone, and Nancy covered the receiver so she could let out a little sigh, before returning to her notes. "You think it was one of the Starbucks, but you can't be sure. Okay. No problem, ma'am; I'm writing it down."
