There was just...so much paperwork from the last week to get through. Steve, knowing how much Danny hated doing it better at it Danny was than he was, helpfully put the mini tower of it onto Danny's desk.

Meanwhile the Troopers setting up signs offering to look through kids' Halloween candy tomorrow for drugs, razor blades, and too many Reese's Cups. "You're real humanitarians," Steve said dryly.

He knew that the real find were the peanut butter Snickers things.

The Trooper Station was open!

It was almost like Danny knew Steve was doing this to him. Almost.

"Seriously?!" Danny said, looking at his desk.

"I don't miss the parking lot fights in the Walmart," Steve said with a sunny smile, "do you?"

Danny sighed heavily. "You're doing this paperwork."

No, Danny was. Because Danny.

"I filled out the first part," Steve said.

No, Calvin did that. Steve moved them to Danny's desk.

"Your name?" Danny said, picking up the form on the top of the stack. "This isn't even your handwriting."

"Calvin wrote it down for me," Steve said without missing a beat.

"You are so full of shit," Danny said, shaking his head. "Remember we got trick-or-treating back on the big island tomorrow."

"Oh, that's right!" Steve said with a grin. "Did Charlie decide to be a SEAL?"

"He went with cowboy," Danny replied, digging out his phone to find the picture Rachel sent him.

"Well, I'll try again next year," Steve decided.

"Welcome to kids, babe," Danny said, laughing as he showed Steve the picture of a beaming Charlie in his costume. "They change their mind about twenty times throughout the month."

"And still didn't change it back to being a SEAL," Steve lamented with a grin. "Maybe I'll dress up that way, show 'im what he missed."

"Do not try to con my kid," Danny said, smacking him on the arm.

[grenadesandohana]

"I'm not conning your kid," Steve said with a laugh. "What's Grace going as?"

Maybe she could be a SEAL!

"Whatever her friends are going as," Danny sighed.

"They're still nice kids, though, right?" Steve checked. He didn't need to run backgrounds?

"The ones she's willing to mention," Danny grumbled.

"She's got a good head on her shoulders," Steve said.

You know, for a teenager.

[hatesparadise]

"Yeah, I know, I know," Danny sighed, taking a seat. "I just miss my little girl, you know?"

"I know," Steve said, "but she's a great bigger girl too, you know?"

"Yeah," he sighed again. "Well, at least we can take Charlie around still."

"We can, and then we can watch a scary movie and make fun of all the special effects," Steve promised.

[hatesparadise]

"That sounds like a pretty good Halloween."

And not one where they'd get a case or have to hunt down some teenage party.

Well, their lives never went according to plan in Hawai'i.

"And we can give out toothbrushes and salads."

Steve was kidding.

"You want to get egged!"

"People don't throw eggs at my house," Steve said.
