The Perk, Tuesday Afternoon

Liliana understood that there was a major midwinter holiday coming up, but so far, all she knew about it was that it inspired the baristas at the Perk to new heights when it came to seasonal coffee flavors and who was she not to reward their efforts by trying some of them? Today she was drinking a peppermint mocha, that included both bits of peppermint in the drink itself and a large peppermint stick (called a 'candy cane,' apparently) to stir it with. And, of course, the requisite mountain of whipped cream and a square of a confection called peppermint bark to go along with it.

Sadly, there was no impromptu entertainment in the way of a distraught customer defending the sanctity of some new seasonal beverage, but the afternoon was young yet.
