There was a large couch made of what appeared to be a sort of jelly doughnut in the shop that day, and there had been enough odd stuff happening in quick succession this month that Eleanor chalked it up to that rather than a very odd decorating choice on Nell's part. Eleanor was not sitting in it, although she did spend a lot of time, sitting in her chair behind the counter with a book going mostly unread, thinking about it, and hearing Luma's voice in her head with an ugh, I bet you'd get fat just sitting in it.

And the thought of Luma, already so pale, attempting to get up out of it all covered in powdered sugar was amusing, and it made Eleanor miss her sister and wonder if she should go home for the winter break (what a concept!), only...well...the only other time she'd gone home from school before, there ended up not being a home to return from, so it was probably best if she stayed here, no matter how much she wanted to see the new place, and her sister, and her cousin. Her mother and grandfather and even Aunt Margaret....
