The park was just across from work, so Rey had stopped for a few minutes to watch the gremlins skating on the iced-over pond. She probably shouldn't be surprised they were as good at it as they were- gremlins obviously lived rich and full lives when everyone else wasn't looking- but it was fun to see.

And then a few of them apparently realized they were late for work when they saw her, and that was how Rey ended up walking into Stark's trailed by a few gremlins like some weird-ass Disney princess so they could all go to their respective jobs.

"Rey?" Anakin called as he entered. "...my first question probably shouldn't be where the gremlins got red aprons in their sizes, right?"

"There are some things we don't question," she nodded. "Hi."

"Hi," Anakin said with an answering grin.

[thatwaslucky]

"You've seen the Starbucks?" Rey said.

[sith_happened]

"I was distracted by the aprons and forgot to order," Anakin admitted.

[thatwaslucky]

"Before you leave," she said. "Or Rory might not forgive you."

[sith_happened]

"Oh, if I come back with one cup and not two, she'll probably hurt me," Anakin agreed with a grin.

[thatwaslucky]

"And we can't have that," she said. "How are you doing?"

[sith_happened]

"If I have to take one more kid to one more event before school's out, I might scream," Anakin admitted.

[thatwaslucky]

Rey frowned. "There are a lot of those?"

[sith_happened]

"So many," Anakin said. "There was a recorder concert a few weeks ago. Juliet had a slightly better concert yesterday, plus things with her friends, and Rory's office, and Christopher still managed to get invited to three birthday parties..."

"That's far too many things," said the introvert.

[sith_happened]

"It really is," Anakin agreed. "And then we have to go back to Connecticut for Christmas."

[thatwaslucky]

"That doesn't sound terrible at all," she said. "If there's not five places."

[sith_happened]

"Spread out over the week," Anakin said, "and that's more manageable."

[thatwaslucky]

"Oh that's not bad at all," she decided.

[sith_happened]

"Exactly. And there will be activities other than eating, so that helps too."

[thatwaslucky]

"When do you head out?" Rey asked.

[sith_happened]

"Not until Friday, probably," Anakin said. "The kids have to finish school."

[thatwaslucky]

"Do you want to do training that day, then?" she checked. "I don't want to get in the way of your schedule."

[sith_happened]

"If we do it early in the morning, maybe?" Anakin said. "Would that be okay?"

[thatwaslucky]

"Completely fine," she said. "I'm usually there then anyway."

[sith_happened]

"Then I'll see you early," Anakin said. "What's keeping you busy here? Other than watching the baristas."

[thatwaslucky]

"Today? Not much. It's usually pretty quiet this week and next, with the holiday," she explained.

[sith_happened]

"Not a lot of people needing repairs right before?" Anakin teased.

[thatwaslucky]

"It will pick up a little next week when kids break new toys," she said.

[sith_happened]

"That's a little depressing," Anakin admitted.

[thatwaslucky]

"I don't think so. It means they enjoyed the toys." Optimism!

[sith_happened]

"Or they're extremely careless," Anakin said.

[thatwaslucky]

"That too, but I like mine better," Rey admitted. "I can't imagine being that way."

[sith_happened]

"The only toy I had was one I built myself out of spare parts," Anakin said.

[thatwaslucky]

"Same for me," she said. "I'm still sorry I wasn't able to bring any back."

There were like two of them.

"Can you on another trip?" Anakin asked.

[thatwaslucky]

Rey shook her head. "I'm sure other scavengers have gotten into the Hellhound and there's nothing left."

[sith_happened]

"I'm sorry," Anakin said sincerely.

[thatwaslucky]

"It's all right," she said. "Sometimes that feels like a whole other me, anyway."

[sith_happened]

Anakin nodded. "Threepio has his own life," he said. "I wouldn't want to bring him here even if he was open to it."

"He could always visit," she said. "I have not had him do that yet."

[sith_happened]

"I would love that," Anakin admitted.

[thatwaslucky]

"It's a while till next Parents Weekend," she said. "Though there are also visits home."

[sith_happened]

Anakin nodded. "I don't do visits home."

[thatwaslucky]

"With good reason," she said. "But there's mine, and Jaina's."
