The building was made of gingerbread and Tony already had some plans drawn up for potential future additions to the tower that Steve and physics and also the zoning board cruelly prevented him from putting into action. So, clearly now was the best time to test things out in the lab in case the gingerbread thing lasted long and renovations could be done with sugar and spice and everything nice.

Which involved stress testing the gingerbread.

"I wish I could be surprised," Steve said from the door, smiling ruefully. "How many more stories is this?"

"It's managing to hold fiver more stories!" Tony said, beaming.

Aaaand parts of the gingerbread were crumbling too.

Steve pointed at the crumbling part with allll of the judgement. "Uh huh."

"It just needs a little frosting." Which he had set up like a soldering iron.

Of course he had. Steve smiled despite himself. "How much is a little frosting?"

"Okay, maybe some frosting and some gumdrops." How was this their life? How?

"...gumdrops," Steve repeated.

"Or M&Ms maybe," Tony said, putting a notation into his design.

Honestly, it was for the best that he never got into making gingerbread things in the winter other than right now. Because no one needed a fully operational Iron Man out of cookie.

"Are M&Ms more structurally sound than gumdrops?"

Because sometimes you had to go with the crazy.

"Well, the gumdrops have a little more give to them, which is good for allowing sway," Tony murmured.

"How much sway are you anticipating?" Steve asked.

"Just the usual wind," Tony promised. "And some unusual wind. Just in case this sticks around."

"And the tower stays gingerbread," Steve added dubiously.

"I'm also thinking about buying one of the bakeries in town for materials," Tony added, almost as a casual aside.

He was so close to being someone who needs to learn the true meaning of Christmas in a Hallmark movie, Steve.

"You're what now?" Steve asked, blinking.

"Just in case!"

See, this is why Tony needed a normal human being around him at all times.

"You do not need a bakery just in case," Steve said.

"It's a good investment," he tried again.

"How is it a good investment?"

[imafuturist]

"For Christmas."

Clearly this was because of all the Hallmark movies Steve watched.

"Are you going to fall in love with the small town baker or start increasingly elaborate gingerbread houses?" Steve asked.

"I mean, I'm a married man," Tony replied. "Unless you're planning to become that baker... no."

Steve laughed. "That's very reassuring. It just sounds a bit like a plot to those holiday movies?"

"When you put it like that, yes," Tony had to admit. "It does work with this month, doesn't it?"

"It really does," Steve said, laughing. "We haven't watched enough of them this month, either. We'll be lost on the plots!"

"Oooh," Steve said. "It won't distract me from whatever you're building, though."

"I wouldn't do that," Tony scoffed, implying he super would with his tone.

"My darling deareast one, of course you would," Steve said, kissing his cheek.

"Well, you can make sure I don't by hanging out with me here." Oh yeah, that was the play.

Steve laughed. "Supervising?"

"Supervising," Tony agreed solemnly.

"And if I say no, you'll listen?" Steve asked.

"Of course." Most of the time.

"When it's important?" Steve checked.

"Of course!" That was the times it counted.
