There was a pile of several hundred bottles of calcium tablets in the middle of the floor today.

“Recycling Amnesty Day,” Ralph said, before Watts could ask.

“Well,” Watts sighed. “At least no one has tried to recycle a raccoon?”

“… Actually, uh…”

At noon there was a Steven. Not with any recycling, but with an insulated bag carrying their first lunch of the year. Steven knocked on the door frame to Llewellyn's office before letting himself in. "Hello, you."

“Hello, you,” Watts replied as he stood up, bright smile crossing his face.

That smile got a smile in return. Steven closed the door behind him so that they had privacy for anything like the rest of a proper greeting. "How's work been so far?"

“About as eventful as things ever get here,” Watts said, pulling Steven in close though not going for a kiss just yet. “Someone dropped off a load of calcium tablets they’d been hoarding for god knows how long, though.”

Steven frowned in confusion. "I - why?"

“Recycling Amnesty Day,” Watts said with a sigh. “Apparently someone has already tried to bring in a raccoon.”

"That's horrible!" Steven said. Then, as he thought about it, "I don't know if it's better or worse if it was still alive."

“Alive, I believe,” Watts said. “The Troopers convinced the fellow who brought it in to just let it go, at least.”

Steven relaxed. "Well that's something I suppose. Hopefully it wasn't too much trauma for the poor thing. And the calcium? How would one even try?"

“Recycling it? By bringing it here apparently.”

"But this isn't a recycling facility," Steven said. He frowned. "Unless you've kept that hidden all this time?"

“No, you are correct in that this building is not equipped to handle recycling,” Watts said, with what could only be deemed a long-suffering sort of expression.

The expression was adorable enough that it got a smile out of Steven. He reached up with his free hand to cup Llewellyn's cheek. "My poor love. At least now there's a distraction? Hopefully a good one?"

“If you are speaking of yourself, then yes. A very welcome, very good distraction.”

"And lunch," Steven said, since they didn't know yet if Llewellyn would like it.

Steven stepped closer. "But in the meanwhile maybe we start the distraction with a kiss?"

Watts didn’t need anything more than that, invitation-wise.

Steven kissed Llewellyn back, with all the enthusiasm that having not seen him for hours entailed.

What? Hours was practically forever.

“My favourite distraction,” Watts said fondly.

"Mine too," Steven said. He gave Llewellyn another quick kiss. "Shall we eat? I made something in honor of our first lunch of the new year."

“Let’s,” Watts said. “I am eager to see what it is you’ve made,” he added, moving away so that he could pull Steven’s chair out for him.

Steven took the chair, charmed as always by the chivalry. He then set about unpacking their meal, which was Hoppin' John done in a vegan style.

"Here we are," Steven said. "It's meant to be eaten for new year as good luck. I know it's not new year itself but close enough to count, yeah?"

“We’re within the first week, I’m declaring it close enough,” Watts said. “It looks wonderful.”

Steven doled out portions, making sure Llewellyn got a little extra. "I liked this version because they said it was good for Rosh Hashanah as well. So something to keep in mind later in the year."

“Oh, that’s useful,” Watts said, Steven getting a fond look as Watts noticed the portioning.

"I thought so as well," Steven said. Serving taken care of, he held up his fork in an approximation of a toast. "To the new year. Cheers."
