The Perk, Thursday morning

Lana was not best pleased today. She could handle most things with the Force, but she could not convince everyone back home that she was not a ridiculous-looking pony, so there wasn't much she could do today. At least, nothing that required face-to-face interaction.

She was therefore a slightly grumpy unicorn (and really, did she need the Alliance logo on her rump?) when she showed up at the Perk to get the largest coffee she could. If only because the larger things were easier to manage with hooves.

Honestly, this place!

Another grumpy unicorn made her way into the Perk in search of a coffee as big as her head to help her get through the day. Liliana appreciated her cutie mark but had absolutely no idea who the other pony in the Perk was, but she gave a small upnod of respect when she saw the size of the coffee they were sporting.

"Morning," Lana greeted civilly. If she wasn't as pleasant as usual, she was a pony.

Completely understandable. Liliana would be very sus of anybody who was chipper and cheerful today.

The voice was familiar, but between pony and everything she'd been through in the past few days, Liliana wasn't connecting the dots between voice and identity. "It sure is," she said savagely. "It very much is a morning."

That was absolutely a complaint.

"Ah." Between the voice and the Force presence, Lana was doing a little bit better. "Liliana? It's Lana." Her voice turned dry. "Welcome to Fandom."

"Ah, Lana, hello," Liliana said and if she didn't seem particularly enthused, hopefully Lana would understand that it wasn't personal. But pony. "If this is the island's idea of a welcome basket, I assure you it can be taken back."

She did, however, lose some of her grump when the barista taking her order offered her a cup apparently designed with this kind of thing in mind. It had a leather strap for carrying it and a straw so they didn't have to suffer the indignity of trying to drink directly from an open cup. Pony mouths weren't exactly designed with straws in mind, but with enough impetus - like desperately needing caffeine - it could be made to work.

"Does this happen often?"

"Thankfully not," Lana said, equally (equinely?) unenthused. "Personally I'm rather fond of opposable thumbs."

She was lifting her cup with the Force to drink. It was feasible, if ridiculous.

"I hadn't realized just how deep my appreciation for the ability to sit on normal furniture went," Liliana agreed wryly, ordering another one of those cups of black coffee to be picked up when she was leaving.

Picked up. With her mouth. Would the indignities ever end?

"I do believe I prefer becoming a child again," she decided trotting dignifiedly walking to a table. A table that was an awkward height for a pony and surrounded by chairs that were not designed for pony comfort. This day was terrible. "At least I enjoyed it while I was one."

"This is simply ridiculous. I can't get anything done!" Lana complained. "And I can't even do something stupidly lazy like visit a spa, either."

Liliana went to raise a single finger to make a point and raised her whole hoof instead. She closed her eyes and sighed in what would have been a prayer for patience if she believed in a god, and put her foot down. Literally.

"Being pampered at a spa is a genuine form of self-care, which means it is exempted from being considered lazy," she said.

"If you say so," Lana said. "I just can't help but think of all the work that needs doing."

"And who will do the work if you exhaust yourself?" Liliana asked, attempting to raise an eyebrow she didn't have. "And how much will the quality suffer as you work your way there?"

Lana shrugged as best as she could. "That's what sleep is for. And meditating. I don't work until I drop, it's just that a spa seems unnecessary."

Was Anakin popping his head into the Perk solely to snicker at Lana because she was a pony and he wasn't?

Yes, yes he was.

Was that a pony biting his cloak real hard?

Oh yeah.

"Stop that," Anakin scolded, turning around and then laughing again. "Hello, Atton. You're adorable."

Just what he wanted to hear, right?

Super what he wanted to hear!

Which was why Atton gave that stupid cloak a very harsh pull.

Hmph.

"Use your words," Anakin said from where he now sat on the floor.

[suitably_heroic]

Atton spat out some cloak fibre. "Ugh, when is the last time you washed that?"

[sith_happened]

"It's dry clean only," Anakin said, "and it hits the floor a lot and it's--most importantly--not meant to be eaten."

[suitably_heroic]

"Have you ever considered not dramatically shucking off your cloak every chance you get? Yech."

More spitting.

"I have not," Anakin said, "because I don't generally chew on my cloak."

"It's still gross," Atton sighed. "Ugh. Why do you get to stay a human?"

"Because I'm special," Anakin said, nodding.

Or lucky. Something like that.

"You're not that special."

Someone should have told Anakin that more as a kid, frankly.

"I'm also not a pony," Anakin said, demonstrating by holding a coffee cup in his hand.

"Yes, I noticed that, you arrogant ass," Atton shot back. "Space, I didn't think your head could get any bigger."

"No, yours got bigger," Anakin said. "And pony shaped."

Lana gave him an incredibly unimpressed look. "I can still shoot lightning at you."

"How?" Anakin asked, tilting his head. "Does it come out the horn?"

"Would you like to find out?" Lana asked brightly.

[sith_happened]

"Not even a little," Anakin said, "but thank you."

[suitably_heroic]

"Every single time this happens, I remember why under some circumstances I'm fine with murder," an extremely grumpy-looking pony announced as he trotted into the Perk.

Lana rolled her eyes. "Ugh," she agreed. "This is ridiculous. If there were anyone to kill to get out of it, I probably would."

Half because it was a stupid way to enforce a vacation on her, and half because it was ridiculous.

"At least it'll be over in the morning," Atton growled.

He didn't sound like that was a relief, particularly.

"It had better be," Lana said darkly.

[suitably_heroic]

"We can always go kick a gnome if it isn't."

Ethical, Rand.

"Are the gnomes responsible for it at all?" Lana asked.

She was all about kicking people, but not if they didn't deserve it.

"I have no idea, but they seem to be responsible for a lot of terrible stuff around here, so I'm willing to risk kicking an innocent," Atton said.
