Trooper Station, Friday

It was a typical day at the Trooper Station. Which was to say, there was not much happening save the occasional odd phone call. The theme of which, today, seemed to be inquiring about the date for the next Recycling Amnesty Day.

“That continues to not be an officially recognized island event,” Watts told the fourth caller so far. “In fact, why are you even contacting the Trooper Station regarding this? I do believe this sort of inquiry is better suited to Town Hall.”

When he wasn’t fielding calls about a day that didn’t exist, Watts was singing quietly to himself “Katie Casey was baseball mad, had the fever and had it bad… ”

Come lunchtime there was a Steven. But he heard Llewellyn singing so instead of knocking or announcing himself, he stood in the doorway and listened.

“When the score was just two to two, Katie Casey knew what to- ” Watts happened to glance towards the door, spotting Steven.

“You didn’t knock,” he observed.

Which was a bit hypocritical coming from someone who rarely remembered to himself.

"You were singing," Steven said. He came into the office, shutting the door behind him. "I didn't want to interrupt. I like your singing."

“I would sing for you any time you wished,” Watts said, standing up to come over to him. “Hello, you.”

"Promise?" Steven asked. He then leaned up to give Llewellyn a kiss. "Hello, you."

“Absolutely I promise,” Watts said solemnly.

"Good." That earned Llewellyn another kiss. "How are you, love? Morning all right so far?"

“Several phone calls, but other than that, unremarkable,” Watts reported. “And much improved now that you are here.”

"Here and with lunch," Steven said. He held up the insulated bag proudly. "Shall I?"

“Please,” Watts said, pulling Steven’s chair out for him before going to sit in his own chair.

Steven snuck a kiss on Llewellyn's cheek to show his appreciation for the chivalry before he sat down. He set about taking out their meal, which included a salad with a raspberry vinaigrette and a quiche which he presented proudly.

"Look! Made a crust for it and all." Then Seven looked apologetic. "I thought something for spring but I'd assumed the weather might be warmer. But either way with this and the salad we use up some of our vegetables before we go on holiday?"

“Good thinking,” said Watts approvingly. He was not a fan of wasting food in general. “This looks wonderful.”

"Excellent," Steven said. He cut into the quiche to serve, making sure Llewellyn got the bigger of the two pieces. "Perhaps we can go through some of our other things before we leave. We're going on Sunday, right?"

“Yes,” Watts affirmed. “Sunday, in the early afternoon.”

Because apparently one had to be at an airport several hours in advance and thus a morning departure was not happening.

"Right," Steven said, mentally repeating it to himself so he could remember. He knew it already, but it never hurt to be sure. "So plenty of time between dinner tonight and our meals tomorrow."

“We could skip brunch on the mainland,” Watts offered. “And just eat at home.”

[hasaknightjob]

"I enjoy our brunches but it might be wise," Steven said. "Though if we've any food leftover that we're worried about we could put it in the shared kitchen for our residents to make use of, I suppose."

“That’s a good point,” Watts said. “Well. Still. We can make French toast, use up some fruit.”

"I'll never say no to your French toast," Steven said. "That's always something to look forward to no matter why you make it."

“And I’m always happy to make it for you, so that works out, doesn’t it?”

Steven bumped their shoulders together. "It's easy because it's me? Making French toast?"

“Very easy,” Watts said. “It makes you smile. I like that.”

Steven was happy to oblige with a smile. "Most things you do make me smile. Just so you're aware."

“Like so?” Watts asked, leaning over to plant a quick kiss on Steven’s lips.

Steven's smile grew wider. "Very much so. One of the best ways, in fact."
