The Perk- Monday morning

In the ten years Sabine had been gone, she'd actually managed to forget about this week, or at least put it out of her mind. However, she knew exactly what it was and she was already annoyed about it.

The last thing she wanted to do however was hole up at home, so she went to the Perk, where the baristas barely paid attention to her order because they were too busy flirting with each other, and in fact her order was slightly wrong but she also wasn't trying to get in the middle of that so she'd deal. She got a table, sipping her wrong drink, and kind of regretting not bringing anything to do, even if she probably wouldn't be able to focus on it anyway.

Meanwhile, Lana just wanted coffee. This couldn't end badly, right?

She smiled, though. "Sabine! Hello, how have you been?"

It wasn't like they had a history with pollen or anything!

"Oh, you know. Same old." Which was pretty true you weren't around. "How are you doing?"

"Not too bad. Home has been as stable as it ever gets, and I'm teaching music here, which is pleasantly low-key. The most excitement recently has been pretending to be a Jedi a few hundred years before my time."

She managed to wave down a barista to order coffee. "What about you; anything interesting?"

"Besides Fandom's old tricks? No," she admitted. "Definitely not as interesting as the Jedi thing."

LOL sigh.

Lana groaned and rolled her eyes. "There were children. I had to tell them seriously that Jedi shouldn't judge people and should always do the right thing. Honestly, the Order should give me an honorary knighthood just for that."

"I think they might be looking for slightly more than that," Sabine said with a little smile.

"Their loss," Lana declared. "How are things going in your time, or should I not ask?"

"It's quiet," she said, wrinkling her nose a little. "Very quiet. We're post-war and I'm pretty localized to one place now."

Which was why she was kind of going soft and making terrible decisions, but details.

"So you came to Fandom for a bit of excitement?" Lana asked.

"It's been a little while since I've had any excitement..."

Sabine.

Lana chuckled. "This would be a really bad time to make decisions like that, wouldn't it?"

Not that she was discouraging it, she just felt it ought to be said.

"That might depend on what the situation is," Sabine said, considering it.

"Learning more about how we've both grown and seeing if we still get on?" Lana suggested.

"And what we'd expect from it." That sort of thing was less complicated when you were teenagers and had less baggage.

"Taking it a day at a time sounds smart," Lana said. "No expectations but honesty."

Sabine paused, because there was incoming vulnerability, which had been very rare when she'd been around before.

"Even I wouldn't want a relationship with me these days," she admitted. The self-sabotage was strong with this one.

Lana shrugged. "So let's start as friends. Or acquaintances, even." She held out her hand, smiling. "Hi, I'm Lana. I'm a Sith lord working with Jedi and running spies for a new government. I also teach music at the school here."

Sabine smiled, really grateful for Lana right now. She shook her hand. "Sabine. Ex-war hero from another planet, runs the weapons shop."

"I'd say being a war hero sounds exciting, but I've known too many. Mostly it sounds exhausting, though congratulations. Can I buy you a coffee? Or a drink?"

"I've got the coffee," Sabine said. "But a drink sounds good."

"You can never have too much coffee, though." Lana grinned as she finished hers. "So - Caritas, Devil's Nest, or T&C takeout?"

"Takeout probably means we start redefining that friends thing," Sabine teased. "Devil's Nest?"

Which probably wouldn't be any better.

"I'm not sure dealing with Tiny's an improvement, but sure." Lana smiled and stood. "Shall we?"
