The Devil's Nest, Wednesday Evening

Tiny had been left to his own devices last night, because Lucifer had opted to stay home with his traumatized partners. It appeared this had made him feel lonely, because when Octavia showed up tonight, it turned out he'd crafted an entire miniature society of little figurines out of mostly toothpicks and olives and other such tiny bar stuff.

Which Octavia would have been fine with, after the start to the week she'd had, except this time they appeared to be mobile. As in, there were tiny figurines parading around along the bar on their little toothpick legs, some of them twirling their cocktail umbrellas like they were parasols. One lifted the bottle cap it had for a hat as it passed by Octavia.

So this whole evening was now just a countdown to whenever she would snap and go home to announce they needed to get the hell off Fandom for the rest of the week.

Talk to Octavia (before she eventually leaves early) or mod Tiny.

Eric didn't start talking immediately, but he did move his gaze from the dancing toothpick people (what the fuck, Tiny), to Octavia's face. Assessing.

Well, Octavia didn't look as actively miserable as she had on Monday, but that was a very low bar. Definitely still exhausted, but not to the point of instability.

Also a low bar.

And as soon as she realized he was there and watching her, there was a clear shift in her expression into a resigned, muted sort of 'for fuck's sake'.

"Well, finals week," Eric said. "Things tend to get odd."

Octavia's lips were a thin line. "We're leaving first thing in the morning, at latest."

Confident words from someone whose partners didn't know about this plan at all yet.

Eric arched up an eyebrow. "Any return date scheduled?"

"Whenever whatever this is --" That was a very pointed look at Tiny's creations. "-- is over."

"Probably Monday," Eric decided.

"Probably Monday," Octavia agreed, and eyed him with some wariness. No reason.

(Obvious reasons.)

Eric's smiles weren't especially reassuring, but he gave her a small one anyway. "I'll stay and protect the bar from ravages of toothpick people."

Something in Octavia's shoulders relaxed a fraction, anyway. It was less the smile, though, and more the not making her talk about anything she didn't really want to touch right now.

"So at least the club will still be here," she allowed, in a rasp.

"I'll start renovating again if you're gone more than two weeks," Eric threatened.

"Is that supposed to scare me?" Octavia drawled.

Like it didn't do something else.

... Also like she didn't have a history of freaking out about him and Lucifer trying to burn the place down.

"I remember strong words the last time," Eric replied.

"Burning something is not renovating it."

"It's the ultimate way to start over," Eric countered with a tiny smile.

"I'm gonna get Tiny to keep an eye on you," Octavia decided.

"Tiny's scared of me," Eric said. "I'm not worried."

Wonder if the tiny bar people would like a tiny axe range?
