Mariner came in to work to find out that Tony had really gone all out on a gift basket to celebrate her new job.

Unfortunately, the contents of the gift basket had decided to go all out on trying to murder Mariner.

Fortunately, Mariner knew just how to handle this kind of situation. Excuse her, there was some...creative disassembly to be done.

Steve had been fighting off Tony's Iron Man suits in the basement lab for the last 24 hours (with no help from Tony. Tony was super grounded when this wore off). When JARVIS alerted him to Mariner's arrival, his voice came in clearly (nothing Tony made would ever crackle dramatically) over the comm system. "Mariner, right?" he asked. "This is Steve Rogers. We have that strange Skywalker class together."

The sound of repulsor blasts also came through the comm. "You okay up there?"

Okay, so Mariner's makeshift bat'leth had turned traitor and joined Team Gift Basket, but that was just a minor complication all things considered.

"Oh, yeah, everything's going great."

"That sounds sarcastic," Steve noted like the helpful sort he thought he was. "Do you need backup? We have a dog in an iron suit with a jetpack?"

Doesn't everyone?

"Aw, that sounds adorable." Mariner was kinda tempted by that, yeah. "But I've got some options still."

A phaser, her current option was a phaser. "Hey, Stark's totally not evil AI doesn't have any especially vital parts in these walls here, right?"

Steve's answering laugh came after it sounded like something very heavy had crashed him into a wall. "Fire at will," he said.

"Hey, I like Riker," Mariner said, while adjusting the phaser's settings despite the fact Steve had no way of knowing why that was funny. "He owes me still."

"Who's Riker?" asked Steve, who really should've been paying more attention to the Iron Man suits he was fighting. "Ow."

"Guy I know back home," Mariner replied, firing at a random piece of ambulatory giftware. "Nice dude, great at Anbo-jyutsu, captains the Titan."

"Gotcha," Steve said. "Sounds like he'd be handy in a fight."

"I mean, he's always got your back," Mariner said, phaser zapping away. "But he also plays jazz trombone, so that might be more of a hindrance right now."

"It wouldn't help," Steve grunted, the sound of creaking metal coming over the comm.
