Well, planning an open house was turning out to be a real headache when it came to ordering stuff to give out. There were grants and stuff for the smoke/CO2 alarms, but the rest? Pain in the ass.

But all of that was serving as a good distraction from answering the email from this Frank guy about a teleconference session like Bobby had suggested for him. Even though he was fine and didn't need therapy.

So, ordering plastic firefighter hats it was.

Buck, meanwhile, was working on the food and drinks portion of it. "Do you think chili would be too cliche?"

Or subs. Subs would also be cliche. And they might get sued by Firehouse Subs.

Eddie pretended to think about it because free lunch was free lunch. People shouldn't complain. "Nah, it's just being thematic."

"That's a good point," Buck said with a nod. "And if I don't screw up Bobby's recipe everybody is gonna love it."

He wasn't even giving Eddie the option of cooking.

"I am taking another cooking class, you know." He could... buy the cornbread, let's be honest here.

"I didn't say anything!" His face might have said something, but he didn't. "You're just so busy with the other stuff that I figured I'd handle the food."

Uh huh.

"Uh huh." Eddie was going to let it slide because he had to decide if 500 hats were too many. Because it was the smallest order they'd ship. "How will we know how much chili to make?"

"Trick question," Buck said. "Because there's only one size for chili--too much."

"But what if people don't come to this?" Oh, this was why Eddie couldn't be acting captain. This right here.

Which was basically the opposite of Clipboard Buck.

"Then we eat leftover chili for the rest of our lives?" It wouldn't be so bad!

"Okay, that doesn't sound too bad." Chris would also enjoy it, but only until he had to go to school with all the chili. He was too cool a kid for that, guys.

Yeah, chili was a notoriously uncool food.

"How are things going on the freebie front?" Buck asked.

"We're going to have some extra hats..."

Try several hundred.

"You can't have possibly ordered that many." Oh ye of little faith, Buck.

It was a beautiful Spring day, so naturally Steve made enemies by forcing the Troopers to go on a run around the island with him.

He waved at them to continue when he stopped in front of the fire station. "Howzit?" he said, grinning.

Oh, those Troopers were turning the corner and just not bothering anymore.

"Hey, Steve," Eddie said, looking up from his amazing ordering attempts. They were going to end up with about a thousand mini boxes of crayons after he clicked something wrong. "Just working on an open house for the station."

Productivity to avoid stuff was how to live.

"Oh, that's a good idea," Steve said with a grin. "The last time a ton of people were in the station, they weren't even people. I was booking every raccoon in the island to see if they were involved in the donut and kidnapping people ring."

Very normal thing to admit to, Steve.

"Oh, did you guys end up doing anything with that guy with the ice cream and the raccoon?" He had to know. The sheer level of weirdness demanded it.

"Oh my God," Steve commented, squeezing his eyes closed. "What is wrong with people?"

"That bad?" Because it'd been pretty weird and Eddie had been glad to dump it on his neighbor. Sorry not sorry, Diego.

"I think that I'm a pretty open-minded guy but wow," Steve said.

[justalittlerepressed]

"And you guys didn't even have to bust him out of the bucket," Eddie said, making such a face.

[grenadesandohana]

"Oh, we leave that to the experts. The bucket experts," Steve said.

[justalittlerepressed]

"Well, if we get another call with him, you guys will be on the list to come along." You know. In the spirit of inter-department cooperation.

"Oh, I'm not sure that's necessary," Steve said.

Please don't make him book a guy for public lewdness with a dairy product.

"Oh, no, no. We want to make sure we have a good relationship with you guys," Eddie insisted. "And speaking of that, we're thinking about doing an open house here for the island. Maybe you guys want to be part of it."

This was all to prevent Steve and Diego from getting competitive over some of the activities being planned.
